Don't know what you're getting at, are we supposed to read through tons of questions and comments to figure it out?

Sorry I wasn't clear, just basically that an experienced Toyota tech is quitting and wrote this:

"Just in time to NOT replace tundra engines for peanuts."

The implication being that the techs that stick around are not happy.

The Toyota tech's get paid by the hour. Why would it matter what they are working on?

theyre allotted X number of hours for each repair. If the hours are not enough, they have to eat that time...they wont get paid for it. If theyre quick and they finish before, they get paid for it and can work on something else. So you could get paid for 12 hours of work in 8 hours or work 12 hours for only 8 hours of pay. Seems like the engine swaps dont pay good in this case.

edit: which i dont think the hours/procedure is out yet. so idk where techs are saying its not gonna be good. Maybe if the rebuild procedure sucked?

All data only calls for 20 hours to swap out and new engine in, that’s not including swapping any parts over, they aren’t listing a warranty time on it yet

but I can understand that, I’m a tech and it’s definitely annoying to work on newer vehicles with hoses and wires run literally everywhere

I get it but I'd good tech should be able to do the job in less time than the book says. How much time is charged by the book for a brake pad swap compared to how fast the tech does it? I'm not trying to be confrontational, but I've seen my truck go on the lift and come off an hour later and get charged 4 hours labor because that's what they book says.

Read some of the posts on Reddit and he is leaving for a job that pays $40k more a year in a fleet shop where one doesn’t get paid by the job.
    Smart move….

Who took another job and is spreading bullshit at the speed of light.
Doubtful he's a high quality tech if he feels the need to vent on Reddit FFS.

Win some, lose some with book estimates. The steady guy you want working on your vehicle or house knows that and is mature enough to deal with it.
I had a transfer case put in one of my cars last week. Book was 8 hours. He's done a bunch of them and finished in 5 1/2.

Or he's a qualified tech who has a lot of knowledge and experience but feels like he's been taken advantage of.

We don't know. I just threw it out there.

Kinda like Amazon reviews, you discard the weirdo outliers and go with the consensus. We don't have a consensus yet so wait and see.

I don't know if this is still the case but warranty work used to pay 50%.

I read through some of the comments and wasn't given the impression he was leaving on bad terms. He did say he replaced a 5.7 headgasket a few months ago.

He also says he will stick with buying Toyota/Lexus vehicles when he wants reliability. The guy isn't posting just to bash Toyota. I can certainly understand finding a better paying gig (salary vs hourly, will make $40k/yr more and is saving $1k/month on health insurance vs Toyota's plan) and being thankful he didn't have to replace any long blocks before he got out.

If you read through the thread, it doesn't seem that the Tundra engine recall is what made him quit. He simply got a better offer. A few other techs chime in on the thread...they all agree: this is going to make a lot of people quit, and whatever it pays, it won't be enough. But they said we'll find out when Toyota releases the letter to dealers outlining the process.

Regarding going over or under book time...I'm not sure I would trust the guy who came in 3-5 hours under vs the guy who went over. It's a crappy situation all around, including if more experienced techs bail for better gigs.

Yes. He said the ToyCorp coolant had transmutated into 50% sulfuric acid with just a hint of vinegar (acetic acid).

They used to take several mechanics, have them do the job, and average the time. Or that’s how it was explained to me by my friend who won the national high school auto tech competition by the largest margin ever seen…he would make way more than 8 hours working for 8 hours when he worked for a dealership.

I'm such a Toyota fan boy. I never thought that it would come to this...that a toyota master tech is happy to not be working on a Toyota Tundra.

That was such a clickbait video, just look at him holding his head like the world is ending. Social media has become a money grab at any expense. He goes on to say if you bring back the V8, bring a proper one. Then show plenty of other gaskets that aren't from the V8 with the same issue. The issue is antifreeze change intervals. It has nothing to do with it being an engine problem. Change your antifreeze=probelm solved. Instead he goes on one of his rants talking crap to scare people. I will probably guess that the new V6TT has the same coating and will probably suffer the same fate if the antifreeze is not changed out.

Is the hole this close to the coating on the v6tt? And does the blown head gasket warp the block or does the warped block blow the head gasket?

So the antifreeze chose one spot on one of the head gaskets and yelled, “ATTACK!!”. But left all of the rest of the head gaskets alone. Makes sense.
