Bought our 2008 Tundra used and noticed driver front blinker went out. Replacing the bulb to find the socket melted along with housing around it. While the housing might be aftermarket (tinted cover) the blinker bulb connector and wiring looks factory. Question is do the blinkers double as DRL when not in use? They are/were always on. Replacing everything of course just want to correct it so it doesn’t happen again. Any suggestions besides OEM on headlight housings?

They double as your DRL. And I believe the bulbs have a higher output due to this. Previous tundra was a 2012 and when I had to change one the socket looked almost scorched

Must be the case. Both sides suffered the same fate. Hopefully the new housing I ordered is a little better suited.

    Alot of them
It's common that those bulb sockets have burn marks on them due to the heat of halogen bulbs. If there is melted plastic, there is a good chance that the previous owner used higher wattage bulbs.

Mine were always burned or melted in my 2008. They're only like $5 on Amazon so I replaced them along with bulbs every time.

I replaced the bulbs with LEDs after the local garage replaced the clear bulbs with higher wattage amber ones. I did replace the sockets.

That's what happens when you don't change the blinker fluid! :D
