I ordered a 3/8 synthetic rope to replace the cable in my winch for ease of use and safety. Just read the winch manual and it says not to use synthetic.

Any compelling reasons to not ‘upgrade’? What is your experience? I don’t see how replacing the cable with synthetic will have any adverse effects?

Also look at replacing your fair lead depending on condition and type. You don’t want your new rope rubbing on sharp edges

Thanks for the quick feedback, I really appreciate it.

Good info on the fairlead, splice kit and 'Recovery Bible'!!

Make sure you clean up the drum, de-burr it from previous use.
Winding new synthetic line properly is important.

Hitch mount is on and I replaced the cable with a synthetic rope. All set to pull the dock out tomorrow!

Where ya pulling the dock. Don’t see many west coasters on here. I’m on the island.

    Thanks for all the input!

The winch was brand new, so the drum and fairlead were factory smooth. Have to flip the fairlead, but I am planning to mount this winch up front with a new RCI bumper so just using the hitch mount to get our dock out for now.

North Shuswap, the lake level fluctuates 10’ from high water in the spring to low water in the summer. Yanking it out so I can do some repairs before next summer.

Nice part of the world. Envious! I don’t get up there as much as I want.
