I raced to the gas station freaking out cause the digital gauge said 25 miles till empty but then only put almost 25 gallons in the tank, I was positive we had a 32 gallon tank

I'm guessing your 3rd Gen has an elongated tank similar to what 38 gal tanks look like in our 2nd Gens... The lie-o-meter will show '0 miles to go' when there is still 8 gallons remaining in the tank (which is the tank's reserve) in my '21 Pro. The reason why so much of your capacity is considered 'reserve' is due to the shallow nature of the tank, as it would be possible for part of the tank to be 'empty' if you were on a steep enough incline...

PS>>> looks like you were at 25 not 15 gallons, which would give you 6-7 gallons of reserve and that sounds about right!!

I’m averaging ~19mpg and after a fillup my digital range might say 500 miles

but 19x32 is over 600 miles … Toyota is trying to keep us from running out on the side of the highway and looking like we’re broke down!

@AWPReefkeeper Toyota gives you plenty of reserve and I have run my tank past the # till empty and read "fill now" or something like that.
Still only got like 30 gals in it.

I had a dodge charger and visited the forums. Them guys would pick apart every single post for proper grammar, sentence punctuation spelling seemed every post turned into an English class. So not like this forum

I have a 23 gallon tank. If you do I hope you didn’t keep filling it up past the first click on the fuel nozzle. If that’s the case you’ll damage the evap system.

Assuming OP has a Limited TRD the standard tank on that is 32.2 gallons.
So he was close to empty (strangely OP did not mention what the fuel gauge reported) and had 7.6 gallons in reserve.
I would put more trust in the fuel gauge over the “Distance to empty”.

I was referring to overfilling the fuel tank causing damage to the evap system. That’s true. That happens.
