I just got a used 2017 tundra after my Ram 1500 Ecodiesel motor seized. My wife I guess wasn't aware that it wasn't diesel and when I was on a work trip she put diesel in it. Drove it a few hundred feet before it threw a check engine light and shut off.

She was able to get it to a shop. They inspected everything, dropped the gas tank, drained it, flushed everything with gas. Now the truck is running like it was before. No codes, no odd noises etc. I guess we got lucky.

Now my question is, should I preemptively replace anything? I was reading some stuff on forums that the fuel pump and spark plugs might need to be replaced. Do you guys agree with that? Is there anything else I should take a look at?

Update: 1 week later and I got a P0420 code. I know the truck was good before this. Passed smogged 2 weeks ago. No previous history of any emissions issues. So I'm thinking the diesel gummed up something. I'm hoping to maybe try the CRC cat cleaner or seafoam and get rid of it. If not then I guess o2 sensors and worst case the driver side cat assembly.

If it runs perfectly, why bother?

If this happened to me I'd take a peek at one plug for shits and grins and take it from there.

How did she get the diesel nozzle into the gas filler neck? Thought it would be too big.

Yeah I guess that makes sense. I guess since I got it only a few weeks ago I just want to make sure it lasts as long as possible. But yeah these are great from everything Ive been reading. Especially coming from the terrible design of a 2016 Ecodiesel.

    Thanks guys!

Hahah this was my exact question. She said it was extremely difficult and she had to hold the pump lever the whole time. I was thinking maybe there's a reason that its not working as it normally would..

This happens at work often with our side by sides. We have a constant revolving door of both gas and diesel ones, depending on what the leasing company drops off.
Tanks get drained and all is good.

    Don't worry about it.

So trucks been running good for about a week. Then yesterday it threw a code P0420. Any one have any recommendations from here? I'm hoping there's just some leftover diesel floating around that cause an o2 sensor to trip up but I cleared the code by disconnecting the battery for 15 or so min. Then the code came back after about 30miles of driving. I'm hoping the cat isn't actually damaged but I'd love recommendations on anything I could try before going to a mechanic.

The non high flow nozzles are the same size as a gasoline nozzle. The Tundra also has a large opening in the fuel neck.

Or his truck just wants an edible with tossing that code. :D

No kidding. Funny code number for an emissions related fault.

My bad didn't see that your truck threw a code. Maybe change the O2 sensors and go from there.

I have a friend who tinkered with running gas diesel mixes in his trucks for a while. He eventually found that the diesel was partially washing into his oil. Seems it was coating the cylinder walls rather than burning.

Anyway, anytime someone needs to run out a partial fill of diesel in a gas tank, change the oil soon after. It may be thinned and over filled.
