If you want to see some amazing stands of Saguaros, follow the Salt and Gila Rivers east of Mesa/Florence.

Yeah, get every permit you can. I think they should not be classified as a game species, should be classified as varmints. Shouldn't have to pay to hunt them, should be a bounty on them. I'm not an AZ resident so it's your business how to deal with the nasty little creatures.
I saw this from azgfd. https://www.azgfd.com/species/javelina/ "The collared peccary, or javelina, evolved in South America and migrated north, only recently arriving in Arizona. Javelina bones are not found in Arizona archaeological sites and early settlers made infrequent references to their occurrence."

That says invasive or non-native to me. You AZ residents deal with the nasty little buggers as you please.
Again, where are the little ones, the ones that have to replace the giants when their lifespan is over? We couldn't find any little ones. We bought Saguaro seeds and put them in the ground at the base of nurse plants trying to mimic how Saguaros germinate naturally. Maybe when I'm long dead that will be my legacy to the great state of Arizona. Along with campaigning on this board to varmint hunt javelinas.

I feel lucky, I have one of the only saguaros on my block, when we moved in 8 years ago it was maybe 10’ tall with no arms, now it’s over 14’ and two 8-12” arms coming off of it

Actually, upon taking a second look, mine is way taller than 14', but only 2 small arms starting.

I’m starting to think their slow growth is exaggerated. Here are the ones in my yard from 2012 and now.

Irish twins. Dispelled the whole breastfeeding myth. That third kid hits like a ton of bricks. I looked about 20 years younger before that happened!
