I just received my Dobinsons MRR kit and want to to prep the bushings for the rear shocks for installation in the next day or two. Prior to purchasing, I downloaded the "instructions" off of Dobinsons website and assumed that there would be more information included with the actual kit, but that was a wrong assumption. The instructions show various "after" photos of the shocks installed in a number of Toyota vehicles, but the picture of the Tundra doesn't clearly show either the bushings used at the top or bottom of the shock.

In the box are multiple bags of bushings, none of which are labeled, for what I assume are the other Toyota models that this shock fits. Which bushings to use and in which order they go in isn't clear at all.

When I pull the factory shocks is not safe to assume that the new Dobinsons bushings will be identical to the ones coming off the truck?

I had this same problem, there was some direction on youtube and a combo of the instructions. I can take pictures of what I did when I get home. I vaguely remember the instructions for the IMS shocks on their website having more information.

Took about 5 hours to get it all gone, but I think it's done right. I rented a spring compressor and can't for the life of me understand how you could get a taller, stiffer spring installed without one. I've done a few laps around town hitting the potholes and speed bumps and everything feels solid, with no weird noises.

Still, I ended up with a few spare bushings and washers out of the bags that I opened and it didn't seem like they get used for our applications.

I'll tackle the fronts on Friday.

So the spring compressor that I rented and used for the rears wouldn't fit onto the front coils. I ended up buying one from SPC that did the trick. It took some trial and error to figure out the correct order of first putting the spring onto the shock body, then installing the dust boot down into the spring and then compressing it, but I got there eventually.

Question, though: what is the best way to get the strut top hat centered and in the correct orientation? As far as I can tell, you can only make adjustments when there is no spring tension, but I imagine if you're off by just a little bit either the four studs at the top won't line up or the bottom of the shock won't. What's the trick?

When I installed the Westcott lift. I used a big screw driver through the bottom eyelet of shock and turned the shock with the top mount nuts tightened down.

I finally found the time to install the front MRR's. I was a little intimidated before starting, but once I got going most everything was pretty straight forward. I have to say that the "handle nuts" used to mount the resovoir cans were a HUGE pain the butt to install. I had to use needle nose pliers to grab one end of the handle through the frame, then a pair of vice grips on top of the needle nose pliers to hold everything in place. With one hand I had to insert my pointer finger into the the other frame hole to hold the nut still while the rest of that hand held the resovoir in place so that I could use my other hand to tighten the bold holding everything together.

I've got an appointment for an alignment on Tuesday and can't wait to put some miles on the truck with the full suspension complete.20240831_140934.jpg
