Hi there! Does anyone know exactly what I need to gain more output (louder sound) by adding a second amplifier to the stock jbl amplifier? If possible. I purchased a 4 channel 400 watt Skar amplifier to try to accomplish this. No sub woofer. Thinking I need an adaptor of some sort.

    Thanks!

Also considering the Skar Active Line Output to add to the amplifier. Maybe this is all I need to add to the JBL amp, to boost sound volume?

2018 with JBL everything is powered off the factory JBL amp, wiring diagram looks like this:

    upload_2024-8-31_16-3-29.png
    The separate channels are:

    Front door woofers
Rear door woofer and tweeter wired together
    Center speaker
    Sub
    Dash corners

With a 4 channel amp you can power any 4 of those channels besides the sub. Depending on how powerful the amp is, it might be too much for the factory speakers power handling.
Depending on the amp, you may or may not need a line output converter.
In short, if you're using it in addition to the factory amp, you'd basically be taking 4 channels of input/output from the factory amp and replacing that input/output with an aftermarket amp.
In addition to an amp, you'll need a wiring harness. Check out AutoHarnessHouse.com, you may need to email them for a JBL specific harness.

First step is figuring out how much power your amp puts out, and how much power the factory JBL speakers/tweeters can handle. If I had to guess, the woofers are no more than 50 watts at 2 or 4 ohms and the tweeters are probably about half that. Feeding them a bunch of extra power will get them louder, but only for a short while until they blow.

    Ok, thanks for the info!
So in conclusion, if I’m over powering the stock speakers, I could replace them with aftermarket speakers that match the power of the amp? If it’s a 4 channel amp, then I can replace 4 speakers of my choosing? Like the door speakers?

Kind of. The front door speakers are each their own channel, while the rear doors have the tweeters and woofer wired together. You could replace all the door woofers with 4 coaxial speakers, or you could replace both the front and rear doors with component sets.

What Skar amp did you get? I can help with speaker recommendations to match it and how you would wire it.

    I got a 500 watt 4 channel Skar audio rp75.
I’d like to start over and redo it all. But with a tight budget, I’m trying to do something with this amp to increase volume.

    thanks for all the input.
