Will there be an update in the future to allow toyotas "remote start and drive" feature to be applied to 2024 tundras? I see that it's offered on other Toyota models and just wondering is its software or hardware related.

Recently I was watching Youtube, Tundras etc. A guy showed how to use your remote to start your vehicle other than using the app. I have a '24 Tundra Limited (July '24 build).

Point your remote at your vehicle (of course), click your lock button three times, but hold the button down on the third click. Within seconds, your engine will start up. When you approach your vehicle and open the locked door, the engine stops allowing you to enter w/o the engine running. If you are still outside your vehicle and decide to go back into your house ,etc. now pressing the unlock button turns your engine off. Then you can re-lock until you come back out to your vehicle. I looked for this in the manual and couldn't find this info unless I missed it somewhere, but works great.

I’m hoping they will change this in the 2025, and if they do, maybe there is a slim chance that they will offer a software update for previous model years.

I saw a video from a Toyota salesman who does a bunch of how to videos on new Toyotas and he made it sound like Toyota was going to do a software update to enable key fob take over… I’m patiently waiting… lol

Hmmmm, does “latest vehicles” mean recently built 2024 Tundras, or other models like Tacomas?

I believe this is only available on Toyota vehicles that have TSS (Toyota Safety Sense) 3.0, such as the new Tacoma. The current model Tundras are all on TSS 2.5.

I think there is some speculation that the upcoming Tundra model refresh (2026?) would bring an update to TSS 3.0 with the related capability of remote start without shut off when doors are opened.

This is the video I watched that got me intrigued about it. I know it's on the new tacomas. I'm hoping there would be a software update that could allow it because I can't think of what hardware would need to be changed or updated to make it happen.

It’s one of the “scavenger hunt” items about Toyota’s (things they don’t tell you but you find out along the way)…

The remote range sucks however….but not complaining…thankful for small mercies (wooosaahhh)
