Quick question... anyone put any miles on a KTM 1290?
I had a Buell Uly back when they came out and it was by far the most fun bike to ride I have ever owned... not the best bike, just a ton of fun.

I miss the wheelies and leaning it over in the turns... and was hoping to find something similar.
I was told the KTM 1290 was the Uly on steroids.

    My friend has a 1300cc buell (not sure the model)and a ktm990.
He would trade them both for a 1290 in a heartbeat. He dislikes the riding position and the constant maintinance of the buell.
Not helpfull I know but the 1290’s absolutely rip and are comfortable to boot.
I just realized I was talking about the 1290 adventure and you are probably not lol.

I've had a 1290 Super Adventure for six years and 35k miles or so. My most favorite bike ever.

Let me know some more details if you don't care.
I am currently riding a 2002 HD Electra Glide and just doesn't come close to inspiring me at all to ride.

Um . . . I'm not sure what to say. I suppose that you can look the specs up online. They have different models for different riding styles with a fair amount of overlap, at least with the Adventures. The Dukes are gnarly sport bikes, I don't know if that's the path you're interested in. The engines are quite similar with differences in tuning and the Adventures have a heavier flywheel for slow speed/rpm stuff.

What I really like about the Adventures is that if you're interested, they will give a surprising number of sport bikes a run for their money in the twisties. Then you can peel off on some random gravel road just to see where it leads to. It's super stable at slow speeds if that gravel road gets a little narrow and cozy. Tons of grunt right off idle. There can be quite a bit of heat that comes up from under the seat in the slower stuff. I can get real close to 50mpg if I make a conscience effort, but it can be a pig too, especially after 5k rpms.

I can't speak to the Dukes, I've never ridden one, but think 170-180 hp naked sport bike and let your imagination take it from there.

I'm not sure what other aspects you might be interested in, but I'll answer what I can.

    Thanks for the info!
I need to find one I can take for a demo ride. But it sounds like it's just what I am looking for.
