Huh. I remember the cops have some kind of card they hold behind the glass, and if you can see it or read it or tell what color it is or something, that tells you if it's legal. I agree, mine is likely not...

No inspections in Montana. Not sure if this is a thing they can pull me over for, or just something that if they pull me over for another reason, can ding me on in addition to whatever they pulled me over for. We aren't a police state here and it's more or less live and let live, but still. I don't like giving them a reason. When I lived in Utah, that was place cops were just looking for any reason to pull you over. Not like that here.

Hmm. My co-worker's husband is a cop. Maybe I'll start with him. I'd hate to call myself out to people whose radar I'm not on, then have to figure out how to remove tint. For now, no one has bugged me.

Love this channel. Also idea for hard mounting one for onboard air.

For any of you wanting to go down the rabbit hole here's information I've gathered through personal experience or having to borrow or watching someone use that setup.

    Viair 88P 1.47 CFM
    • Pros - cheap, extremely portable, good for a small tires
    • Cons - 1.47cfm... don't even try this thing for anything bigger than a 285/70, takes 3 business days to fill anything, non removable air hose, thread on chuck is awful.
    Single compressor 5.65 CFM
    • Pros - cheap, lightweight, small package, will get the job done, can be hardwired/hard mounted.
    • Cons - lowest output, non removable hose, any thread on air chuck SUCKS, cumbersome to use, not good for large tires.
    ARB Dual 6.16 CFM
    • Pros - convenient as hell, no additional setup, decent performance, always onboard, can be setup with the "sponsored by wifey" setup to make airing up and down the least cumbersome out of the options available.
    • Cons - expensive as hell, once you get near 35's its really starts to be noticeable in air up time.
Morrflate Dual 10.6 CFM (my favorite so far and it will air up 37's in the time it takes an ARB dual to air up 35's). https://morrflate.com/shop/air-sources/portable-compressors/morrflate-tensix-12v-compressor/
    • Pros - relatively cheap, airs up FAST, can be hardwired/hard mounted, hoses and quick connect air chucks are well thought out, hose kit can be used to inflate and deflate tires simultaneously.
    • cons - heavy, bulky, hose kit takes a minute to setup/put away.
    • Napa has the maxitrac version of this compressor for cheap (or at least they used to). It can be modified and you can make your own 4 tire hose kit, but mine shit the bed and I ended up just going to the morrflate and never looked back.
Powertank ?? No personal experience, but with research from my recollection
    • Pros - the fastest air up time, allows for the use of air tools I think? convenience if filled
    • cons - Requires a very secure mounting solution, you have to go out of your way to fill the tank, tanks do expire so you have to replace it at some point, big initial investment, not free to use.
From what I've learned is that this is never going to be a quick endeavor, but the most convenient way to approach this is the system needs to be setup, requires no additional work/connections while airing up (moving the air chuck from tire to tire), then put away. I rarely use my stuff these days, but when I do use it I'm very glad I spent the money. That morrflate compressor is comical with how fast it'll air up my 305/70's.

Removing tint isn't that bad. Just need a decent steamer for clothing, plastic scraper, glass cleaner, and a lot of patience. You will burn yourself without gloves so just take your time. I had to remove windshield tint before.

Good to know. This is one of those things I'd get a quote from a pro first. Depending on the price, then I'd consider doing it myself. But there's a decent chance I'll never even take the first step of finding out whether my tint is legal...

In regards to your tint being legal or not on your later post. This is definitely not legal. Looked up Montana and you're allowed 24% at the front doors, rear doors/rear windshield are at 14%, nothing below the AS1 line on the front windshield. I have 5% all around and 50% on my windshield and yours looks like 0% or 5% on the sides.

If your tint is a problem, someone will tell you. Then you can do something about your problem. Otherwise, motor on.

Not gonna watch the video, but you left the duty cycles out. Less important if you're only filling your own tires, but more important if you're filling up more than one vehicle's tire at a time. Duty cycle is effectively reduced at higher ambient temperatures, meaning a compressor will require a longer cool down time at 90 degrees vs 70 degrees.

    88p is a 25% duty cycle
ARB single is 50% duty cycle
ARB twin is a 100% duty cycle
That Morrflate is a 80% duty cycle

This has been my approach so far.

Based on responses here, I'm pretty certain I'm not legal. That answers that. Whether I decide to do anything about it will likely come down to whether I get pulled over for it.

Audio shop I worked at did tint. Had many interactions with local LEOs. Where I was in FL at the time, the local PD and SD had what almost looked like a gun with a notch in it. They rolled the window down a couple inches and slid the window into the notch, pulled the trigger, and it told them the %age.

Obviously that only worked for the driver's/passenger's window, but that's typically the one they were worried about the most. They could care less about the windshield head strip, and it's illegal in many (most?) states to tint the entire windshield, so if that was tinted, you're looking at another ticket.

Removing tint sucks. Especially on cars with rear window defrosters. I was the mule who had to do it when I first started at the shop. Back then, there was no such thing as plastic flat razors.

I doubt they have that tool where I live. We're under 5,000 population, and more of the trucks around here look like this than souped-up, jacked-up, lowered, sound-systemed, tinted etc. Either way, seems like I can be confident I'm not legal.

Hopefully my neighbor has a friend with a Tundra on this site and he finds out I'm posting photos of his truck on the internet.

Got an M8x1.25 thread chaser and cleaned up the threads for the skid plate and wings. Noticed most of the original bolts had damaged threads so I ordered a bag of bolts from Toyota. While there I changed the oil and filter. So nice that my bolts can now be turned by hand again. Was gonna pull my intake and fix the slow coolant leak but the wind kicked up and I decided to put it off again.

Last followup on this before install.

I had a chat w/Nick at Foxbeam. Very easy to deal with. He mentioned he thought those bezels are all I need to make this happen.

I had a call with Casey at Diode Dynamics, she confirmed that's what I'm missing. I ordered the pods with rectangular-angular bezel, I just needed a round bezel. She gave me a coupon code for free domestic shipping (FSX72C4HS) and I ordered them up.

She also mentioned that Diode Dynamics was so impressed with the quality of Foxbeam's kits that they intend to start carrying his specific kit for 2000-2006 Tundra and '07 Sequoia as something you can buy direct from DioDyn.

So now I guess we wait, and when I get these round bezels in, I'll install my new SS3 pods. Super stoked.

I took Reba into the local shop to trouble-shoot the clunk. Ends up it is bad bushing on my lower control arms . . .which I think were replaced not too long ago by PO. Gotta feeling they were not Toyota, but haven't had time to give them a good look.

Took mine for an alignment today. First since doing steering rack bushings, lbjs and 5100’s in the front. Took it to Toy Lex in Kemah, TX. Man that guy is awesome. Owner is super nice and knows so much about these trucks and has a sweet Land Cruiser. He helped me get the rear top school nut off and I swear the truck rides so much better after the alignment. It even feels less harsh if that makes any sense. I’ll be going back for the other side of rear shock.

If you get pulled over have both front windows all the way down before the officer walks up to you. Even if it's raining.
Same if it's ever taken in for an inspection.

I sold a car with tint to a friend in a neighboring state & the windows failed inspeciton. He got two front windows at the junkyard, swapped them in, retested & passed inspection. Should you reswap the windows or not is your call. ;-)

That’s a lot of work for inspection. My inspection guy doesn’t trip over tint lol.
