So I just pulled the trigger on an 05 DC which I may talk about it more in another post, but wanted some advice on these rust spots. Most of them are not to concerning to me after some research and most of the frame has been treated, but the motor mounts and surrounding area (first picture) seem to be the worst and haven’t seen the same amount of attention as the rest of the frame. Unfortunately, I spotted this after purchase, but I had a dealer look it over and they didn't notice anything concerning or out of the ordinary for a 20 year old truck. Additionally, the truck is in Utah and they salt the roads to my knowledge. It will only be here for 2 more years and then hopefully retire in Florida. Looking forward to the advice and now being able to be apart of this community.

I would clean up the flaking rust to see how much good metal is left. Worst case, it could be reinforced now instead of later. Either that or be diligent about getting it covered in fluid film once a year although you may want to indicate what state you belong and whether they salt the roads in the winter.

I have added this to the post, but I am located in Utah and they salt the roads. I will be sure to treat it before this coming winter.

Yeah, I'd be pretty pissed off about that. I see a couple of places where it's delaminating, and it's clearly been painted over rust in others. Sounds like someone pulled a fast one on you. Any opportunity to return it?

Well, if you’re going to keep it and are only concerned with the motor mount, then clean up the area as best as possible with a wire brush to assess the true condition. Same with the joint of the crossmember as well.

I’ve also circled areas, especially along the top of the frame rail you want to clean out the bad metal and coat with a rust encapsulator. It can get a lot worse if left untreated.

In not sure if someone pulled a fast one on him. Those are very visible areas and easy to check if you got under it.

But if you got a good deal on it, I’d cleanup the bad areas and prime and paint the rusted sections.

Unfortunately I doubt it because it was a 3rd party seller. I am surprised the dealership that looked didnt think that it was a big issue, but I did use it to lower the price. What would be the best course of action in preventing or slowing the issue? I paid $7800 with 184k, clean title, paint matched topper, steel bumper and winch, 5 set of method wheels and newer tires, and bilstein 5100s all around. I am not terribley upset because it was far under my budget and the truck will be permanently in Florida in about 2 years.

In add'n to those, this is the one spot I was noticing where it looks like someone sprayed over existing rust.
