    98% correct...

The govt doesn't pay for shit; we are all paying that mess...

You hit the nail on the head regarding pensions and this mess, as most of these fools' pensions are tied into other state based public service pensions such as PD, FD, Teachers, etc.... which means a greater burden on those systems with less return from the 'service' they've provided

Totally agreed. The govt itself doesn’t actually pay for anything. My post simply said, that is what the university admins tell themselves. It’s how they justify the insane tuition hikes we’ve seen over the last 40 years.

Corporations seem to be going the other way, cutting the number of positions in half with the justification that "we have to change the way we work" and outsourcing as many jobs as they can to India.

We've been discussing this with our girls. College is an option but not the path. Schools in general focus too much on every hot button aspect of society instead of educating. Colleges aren't any different from this problem that school boards have created.

We're probably not too far off from seeing this. Will the eBay version be of the same value though?

The way I look at it, if you are not going after a STEM degree, then the only reasonable option is in the trades or military to get a good FREE background before rejoining the civilian world. Keeping a multibillion $ B-2 flight ready does take some brains.

If my kids want to be something like a doctor/dentist, nurse, dental hygienist, engineer, forester or something like that, I'll fully support them going to college. Otherwise, I'll try to recommend something else like a trade.

Yeah but would I push my kids into today's military? Not happening with the ass clowns we have running things.

As said above by a few people, @Cpl_Punishment, @Black Wolf, if you're pursuing certain fields college works.

I don’t have a degree, and I would say I’m successful in my life. I’m the President of my full time employer where my job involves math, relationships, operational logistics, management etc. I went to school after HS and said “nah. I don’t need advanced algebra. Watch me still get far in life.” And did just that. I then own my own detailing business and hustle for that…all without a degree :gasp:

Now, careers like my wife has (was a midwife nurse in Peru) or my daughter is going for (pediatrician) I do believe schooling, and advanced schooling is needed as it’s not all about experience in that one.

@nobodyintexas already touched on this, but UoP and others have been doing this for a while...

I think it all depends on what job your after... huge difference in a law degree from Harvard vs. University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). While both degrees will probably both qualify you for most entry level attorney positions, there's certain career paths that won't even consider a non-ivy league degree.

I believe online degrees are probably the same

    agree.
My son HAD to have a degree to be a CPA - his chosen path to success.
Daughter is nursing...RN. so she has to have a degree as well to enter.

and both will have a job on graduation. (my son already does)

now his buddies, that chose passion degrees?....well....they are still looking.

and look at the explosion of psychology/social degrees....come on. you exit school in debt & unemployable.

this is what is so sad.

there is no mechanism for knowledge transfer these days. (apprentices) >>maybe in the Elec field.

smartest folks I know never went to college. and can out-hustle anyone.

I say this in relation to the O&G industry.

we are running out of hard men.

    truckers too.

This is the problem. Kids go into college without a goal or career in mind. Spend loads of money, whether their parents or borrowed, then get near the end are like, okay now what? Maybe I'll try that influencer thing. What in the actual F is going through their minds? Critical thinking isn't, that's for sure.

And as a proud marine I'd wish no daughter of mine to join that incestuous pool of killers. They have a job and do it quite well. Personally it's not a woman's world in the ol suck as you and I know it.

    yup.

that's all you need to take the exam.

it don't matter where its from.

when my son was in his internship, with a Houston firm, he was in the same room as folks from high-falutin' schools.

Y'all made me remember something what my son told me about his post internship interviews with the Partners.

he was in the office of one of the partners for 15 minutes.....then the partner called another partner into the meeting....for another 10 minutes.

well, the other interns saw this....afterwards the other interns asked what happened.

funny part....they were in there talking about traeger grills & big green egg grills. my son worked at an Ace hardware the previous summer. and the partners were grilling him (pardon the pun) on how he liked them and which sold better.

moral of story....I think....he was able to sit and have a fun engaging conversation with the important folks. most kids can't do that.

    sad, right?
