I tried Tow+ mode for the first time (without towing anything) and yes it does give you more power but all it's doing is keeping the truck geared low (like you would want when towing a heavy load). Yes it does make the truck more responsive since it doesn't have to downshift when you hit the gas but I definitely wouldn't keep it in this mode for normal driving. A good synonym for this mode would be "Waste Gas Mode". Cruising at 35-40 MPH on flat terrain was keeping the RPM's around 2000. In normal mode the RPM's are around 1200 for the same speed which is typically the lowest it will go unless you're stopped. It seems all the different drive modes are only changing the shift points.

A plus for hybrid users is that the engine stays running in tow/tow+ mode thus less lag from a stop.

    Nitrogen filled tires!
My non-hybrid engine stays on all the time - even in all tow mode options. Just push the engine off disable button on the control panel.

While I agree that it's not the mode to keep it in for normal driving, (without towing anything) I will respectfully disagree with a couple other points.
You say Waste Gas Mode, I'll agree, if one were to keep it there all the time. Otherwise, I say Live a Little Mode.
And to say ALL it does is raise RPM's and shift points, those are the things you can directly see and feel. There's more going on in the background to get that immediate kick in the pants with the reduction (elimination?) of torque management. Increased timing and boost level most likely.

Right, we don’t get that luxury. I switch to tow mode just so it doesn’t go to battery-only mode. No stop start button in the hybrids.

You signed up for the "waste gas club" when you bought the truck.

Not to mention, when not towing and someone at a stop light challenges your manhood... TOW+ is great for setting them straight once light turns green...

    Just saying...

(4HI may help reduce back tires from going up in smoke under launch conditions or traction control spoiling the fun...LOL)

Toyota considers Tounge Weight counting against the Payload, so would be better to say Payload than Tounge Weight. Check the 2024 Tundra Payload for each trim. My 2024 Tundra is a Limited IMax around 1800lb and change for Payload. 2024 SR5 is the highest, but tough to get one with the IMax Hybrid. Tundra Limited IMax Hybrid is readily available at dealerships, and of course, you can't order one since Covid.

How do you know what gear the truck is using while driving and or towing? My dash is digital and only says D for drive.

Not really. My 2005 Tundra with 4.7L V8 got 13MPG city/highway. I'm typically getting 23-25MPG with my 2024 Tundra. Yes, I'm still on the factory tires and will eventually replace them with All-Terrain tires once I wear out the current set. I'm not looking forward to the MPG hit the heaver tires will cause, however.

You need an OBD dongle and an app like OBD Fusion or Car Scanner. If you search the formus for OBD, you'll find quite a bit of info.

Your door sticker says you have over 1,800lbs of payload? That would be a first to have one that high. Can you post a pic of it?

My 2024 SR5 Tundra Crew Cab 4WD 5.5 ft bed lists the payload capacity as 1380 LBS. And has an additional sticker for dealer-add on's that subtract from that number. (22 lbs)

An SR, however, can have a payload capacity from 1,810 to 1,940 lbs

You can also press your shifter to the left... which is "s" maybe? It it the manual mode and it will tell you what gear you are in. I use that every now and then for a quick look. I don't remember what the manual says, but I think the truck will still shift for that gear and below. Either way, I think it works for a quick shift if you aren't hard on the gas.

I think that just takes you to 4 or something right off the bat though, not just a read on what you are in currently.

Im not sure what it matters anyways, just normal, tow or tow+ and drive, lock out whatever gears you want in S mode

There was a recall for mislabeled payload stickers…. Not saying this is one, but worth to verify.
