New guy, 1st Tundra

Howdy from Texas!

I recently purchased my 2006 DC Limited RWD with the 4.7L V8 and a lowly 264k miles- for $5,000. How’d I do?

Before buying, I had a trusted mechanic get it up on a lift and do a PPI for me.. NO RUST, no major leakage and no major concerns on his end. In addition to his inspection, I came across the “So you wanna buy…” thread and after reading it over a couple of times I had all the confidence I needed to move forward with my purchase.. I now have a new daily and a blue title with my name on it!

I’m very excited to make this truck mine and “trick it out”, but for now I’m prioritizing all the basic maintenance and upkeep items.. did an oil change our first weekend together, got the check engine light taken care of (bad AFR & Oxygen sensor) and I’m scheduled with a Toyota Master Mechanic for the timing belt/water pump replacement this Wednesday.

I plan on getting her in for new LBJs and a suspension refresh after because right now I’m riding on a verrrry squeaky set of worn out front shocks and the idea of an LBJ failing on my daily commute (mostly highway) does not give me good feelings.

I am happy to be on this thread and a new proud owner of a truly classic pickup and I look forward to learning from and sharing with the community!

For clarification, and it'll matter when you're asking questions so we know what you've got, it's a 4wd, not RWD.

Of course yes technically all our trucks are rear wheel drive, but to distinguish one from the other, we call 4wd trucks 4wd, 2wd trucks Rwd or 2wd.

It would seem that this truck is 4WD, considering it has the 4WD badge on the tailgate and TRD Off-Road stickers on the bed however, I can assure you it is indeed RWD only as it has no 4WD shifter or front diff... my belief is that when the previous owner got into an accident/repaired the body, he replaced it with trim from a 4WD model.. that or he added the badging and stickers himself.. very deceptive indeed!

Well if you decide to make an honest truck out of it, there are tutorials/threads on debadging. I took the TRD stickers off mine, and am considering removing the V8 and 4WD badges from the tailgate. Still haven't decided.

Honest mistake- I wish I could say I noticed that when inspecting it myself, I went into the sale assuming it was indeed 4X4 HAHA. I do intend on removing the tailgate badging and bed stickers, I appreciate the thread included.

 

It happens, live and learn.

The first Tundra I went to look at, I crawled under it, test drove it, everything. Got as far as agreeing on a price and filling out a bill of sale before I realized it was a 2wd. I'm not really a facebook user so I'm not sure how it happened, but I think when you sell certain things, there are some "typical features" that auto-populate. When you list a Tundra, it must auto-populate 4wd. When I backed out on the sale, the guy was pissed at me. I had to take a screenshot to show him where his ad said 4wd.

But of course I should have caught it when I was crawling underneath...I was so sure it was 4wd, I wasn't even paying attention. Just looking for rust and oil leaks. And of course, why didn't I test the 4wd on the test drive?? I have no idea. Lesson learned.

That truck was a flatbed so there were no emblems.
