My 2015 Sequoia 5.7 has the tow package, but doesn't have a transmission cooler from the factory (disappointing). Took a trip last week and meandered my way through Southern Utah, Vegas, death valley, So cal. Transmission temps were solid 220-230F :eek2::eek2::eek2:

Vehicle was loaded up but not over capacity by any means. No trailer, no cargo carrier, well maintained. Speed limit 80 mph most of the way until I hit crazy traffic basically from Mesquite on down. Ambient temps were 100+ most of the days with a high of 118 and nothing below 105 for hours on end. Honestly, I don't know how you AZ/SoCal guys handle it. I almost suffocated stepping out the vehicle to gas up.

Looks like the transmission is getting serviced the next minute I get to crawl underneath it. I'll also be installing a transmission cooler. And I was worried about seeing 218F on my Whippled tundra...

Nope. I was surprised to see was much. Factory Toyota hitch, functional tow/haul button, 4pin/7pin harness, no cooler :/ And to be clear, I know that in around 2010 the tundras changed to cooler integrated with the AC condenser. I'm not seeing any lines transmission lines on the AC condenser or coming out of the passenger side radiator ducting behind the grill like the tundra. Next time I crawl under it, I'll quadruple check, but I'm 99% sure there's no cooler on it.

Remember to look for the thermostat on the passenger side of the transmission, it's presence/absence will kind of be the clincher.

My truck looks like your truck. Also note on your Tundra (and mine) the air deflector has the letters ATC . . . Automatic Transmission Cooler?

    Makes sense to me.

Trying to decide between an Amazon Special with Derale thermostat (we get four seasons so I methinks the thermostat necessary) for $120, or a nice Setrab setup for a little over $300. Reliability is for what I'd be willing to pay more more - assuming the Setrab is as good as they say.

    Many on the way.
Sequoia lost the cooler after 11/2010 build… so mid 2011 model year.

The original side mount location is superior everywhere but slow speeds.

Good to know. I figured they had it integrated in to the AC evaporator and was surprised a while back to see that mine didn't have one at all. When you say side mount, you are talking about this setup? I think theres some ducting on the bottom of the cooler to direct airflow up from the lower bumper...?

I was thinking of something simple like this picture. Maybe a 15 or 20 row Setrab.

What are you thoughts on that setup? We pull our camp trailer with the sequoia a couple times a year, but haven't taken it more than hour or so from home. Yet..

Just realized the second pic is from a GCS cooler kit offered here on the site; I just searched for images on NOTgOogle. IMHO, that kit is nice but too much monies... But it looks like the setup seems to work well.

Yes, that’s it, and there is an additional air intake on the Sequoia ducting, the Tundra does not have the extra intake, it certainly could help. The benefit of the side mount lies in not preheating the air before it enters the condenser and radiator, thus maintaining the efficiency of those. It’s even more important if the supercharger heat exchanger is stacked in front.
