Dumb question. I need just the “fob” part of my key replaced. I still have the key insert but the fob itself got obliterated. Do I just buy a fob and have it programmed?

Depends by how obliterated.... if just the shell, you can buy a blank or the AJT case, and swap the electronics and key over. If the whole fob is toast minus the key, you may have to get the new one cut depending what you buy and then programed.

General statement since I don't remember what a 2020 key looks like specifically.

The whole fob (minus the key) is toast. :/

Gotcha, then you will need to buy a fob and get it programmed (not a case like AJT or Meso). Call around, and find out if them programming the new one will make your other one useless. I've often heard dealerships charge you to program both but the guys that come to your house manage to just program the new one :notsure:

    I have limited experience.

Replaced all parts with smoked mesquite, and L.E.D bright interior lights.
Costco had a program several months ago, whereby, they had a mobile vendor outside their front door programming and making keys on the spot. They made a secondary key for my Toyota tundra fob, which the dealership didn't provide, and the price was reasonable. As far as I know, they made and program keys / fobs for all vehicles. Good luck.

I got my extra fob from https://northcoastkeyless.com/ for about $110 and my local dealer programmed the fob and cut the key for $75. Dealer price can vary widely, but local locksmith said he could not do it.

There is also a company that will rent you the device to reprogram which migh be best since you still have the key.

Make sure you get the correct fob version. IIRC there are at least 2.

A local locksmith shop did mine. Pennies on the dollar vs the stealerhip.
