you brought back a memory about leg day.

I started lifting in 1988-ish. The gym I went to was frequented by the Stephen F Austin Univ. Football team and a few competitive powerlifters.

as all true lifters know...the lifting crowd is very supportive of each other.

well, the speech I got one day, from this large white dude, was to never skip leg day.
If you are going to fuck off a day, make that day upper body. always do leg day.

I was 20-ish and my brain must have absorbed that.

see, it's very rare - to this day - to have someone give you advice that lifts you up and makes you better.

I can count on one hand the number of leg days I've missed.

the dudes also taught me early on...never ever do leg press. it will fuck up your lower back.
go leg days with your feet on the ground. like a human functions.


then came the Westside barbell videos. (Louie Simmons) I bought and watched them all. I got hella strong. (no roids) (645/407/550)


then I got older and am now passing the torch to my son.

 

Good on you for teaching your boy that physical health matters, but in a healthy way. The gym/fitness culture around me growing up was trash, and I developed a hatred for everything about it. Jokes on me, though, as now I'm a fat ass!

 

See, I could care less about the numbers. Just never mattered to me but I wouldn't mind not wheezing going up stairs, or not being self conscious about taking my shirt off.

the only money maker is the squat. bar none

the wide stance box squat is even better when you have developed a skill set. this lessens the impact on the knee joint. very little shear. and loads the posterior chain like nothing else.

the leg press yanks the lower back on the bottom of the movement. the only way to avoid this is to do partial movement.

the hack squat invokes way too much knee shear. and mimics the leg press at the bottom of the movement.


I'm not saying you are wrong...just calling balls and strikes.



and...the qualifier to retort is the ability to do a relaxed third world squat. (like an asian man)

if I have to send an actual picture of me doing one, it will have to wait till later.
