Hello so I changed my oil 2 time through the oil filter ONLY figured out that it had too much oil and was blowing a little bit off smoke, drained some out it was ok than I changed with the correct amount of oil now its like a smokehouse, and the engine has the shakes. HOW CAN I SAVE MY TRUCK!!!

Drain the oil. See how much comes out. If you’re past that, how much came out when you drained it?

    Let’s try the drain.

You probably fouled the plugs into oblivion, hence the shake. That should go away after a little bit of driving. Do you have any leaks?

Drain the oil to the right level, let it sit for couple hours then see if the shake gets better.. I'd probably just change the plugs after you've corrected the oil situation.

So you didn't use the drain plug to drain the oil in your truck?

You only drained from the oil filter?

Then you added 8.5 qts of oil?

Can’t say I’ve ever tried - but I think you get less than a quart if you just drain the filter.

That's what I'm thinking. It can't be a whole lot coming out of there. Unless you start the truck up, haha.

A forum is just for this type of thing. Guy tries to do something himself, makes a mistake and comes here for advice. What's the reward for a new member? A bunch of hot shot wise ass responses. A whole page of people who never made a mistake.

You guys are right, there were a couple good responses at the start. It quickly snowballed from there. I guess I have seen the latter type of behavior from folks on this forum and TW from time to time and it just blows my mind. Its right up there with people who tell you to "just use google". Sure google will work, but if we want forums to continue and not have everything be youtube and facebook, people need to give some people a little more slack sometimes.

Helps if OP EVER comes back to join in the discussion they started. Then it helps if after discussing the possible fixes, they come back and share what worked.

I respect your desire to make this a better place. Hopefully OP didn’t lose his engine.

    :fistbump:
It’s funny whenever I see people complain about lack of camaraderie on the forum they usually have double digit posts and haven’t tired to help anyone.

I talk to multiple people every day that I met here who are no longer forum friends - just friends.

Meh, I understand and appreciate your altruism but if the OP can’t be bothered to post a question by typing, providing important details, and maybe just not using Siri exclusively, then it warrants a little ribbing. Besides, the engagement keeps the post on the front page encouraging views and maybe the OP will return and update us and we can be of better help.

You rip on your friends, not people you don’t care about.

Do you know how many quarts were in it? Do you see any oil coming out of the engine or it’s just smoking? Running normal other than smoke?

Once the crank starts to get submerged in oil, it will throw it everywhere as it spins and is a huge mess. There is a YouTube video with a window cutout showing what happens when you run an engine with excessive oil. They can take a lot - but obviously it’s not ideal. If it sounded okay I think you'll end up okay.

You certainly wouldn't be the first to make a mistake, and you most definitely won't be the last... I don't believe the result will be too catastrophic. Good luck on an easy and relatively painless resolution

Assuming you haven't driven it 100 miles already, it is probably going to smoke for a little while. Is your check engine light on? If you're misfiring from fouled plugs, it probably will be. You're probably okay if you didn't fill it to the point that you have seal leaks.. which would take a lot.

I hope you didn't cause any significant damage.
I also hope you drained the engine oil and not the transmission fluid on the second attempt. Because, apparently that's easy to do on the Tundra. I've seen that thread on here before.

I highly recommend you watch a good YouTube video or something before you attempt any more maintenance. Or ask lots of questions first. This forum has some insanely intelligent and mechanically inclined people on here. Most are more than happy to help you out.

yeah, that was my thought also. but if he drained through the filter, then probably over filled it. Besides fouling the plugs, the added oil will generate more engine heat as it works harder to move through the added oil. And make sure you are checking the oil level on level ground, not while the vehicle is up on ramps.
