2016 105,000 miles.. Have slop left front axle shaft at the differential housing. Am I correct to assume it needs a new needle bearing or bushing. Like from East Coast Gear, clamshell bearing..?..Anyone have dealer do it..Called local dealer, don't think he knew what I wanted, quoted $2000 plus parts..

They only know how to price it with Toyotas fix, not the actual fix. Best to find an independent shop or one who does 4x4 work.

Or do it yourself like many of us.

It’s going to have slop where the half shaft rides in the differential housing whether the needle bearing is bad or brand new, that’s just the way they are. Not necessarily an indication that it is bad.

Do you have any noise or vibration that goes away when you engage 4WD?

ECGS bushing is around $200 in parts with a new seal and all the install tools. The $2000 quote you got was probably for a full front differential replacement.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix. I only replaced mine due to the harmonic vibration.
