I’ve been trying to find the best and safest option. Thought I needed a cap with kennel and strap that down. This worked perfect. No real way to strap big sexy in.

We have one of those seat belt leashes for our latest rescue pup. It plugs into one of the rear seat belt buckles and has a clasp that we connect to his harness. He isn't totally strapped in but won't get ejected or run off after crash. You can change the length to give the doggos more or less freedom. We also used it with our dearly departed JRT who used to put his front paws on the console of my Tacoma and ride it like a surfboard, all the while on the lookout for critters and hawks. God I miss him.

That sounds perfect. Was really cool to have the dog close but yes we should secure him.

funnest part of whole ordeal is getting 100# dog in there (he can’t quite jump that high)

1 year update. The platform has been flawless and well worth the time and money to build it. It’s been rock solid and hasn’t needed any modification to date. Little guy turned into a big guy and loves putting his head out the window.

Fabbed one up last weekend. Not as good as some, but it'll get the job done.

Nice! What does the underside look like? Is that 1/2" plywood?

I used MDF. Underside is unfinished aside from the speaker carpet material that overlaps a bit.

If you started with a 4'x8' sheet of plywood, are your support pieces on the bottom all from that same sheet of plywood for the most part?

Thank you all for the info, I needed to come up with something quick to get my 150 pound Dane to the vets. I used whatever I had around the house to put this together and get him there. It’s a skin issue so not an emergency but they had a cancellation so moved out appointment up to this morning. I had scrap plywood and dome egg crate foam and some old beach towels. It worked perfectly!!!!

Thank you for the information and updates on your dog platform, I shamelessly copied your design. Opted for the foam padding under the carpet, still feels very stable.
