Hi all, I'm new here just wanted to get some advice from the community.

Looking to purchase a 2019 Tundra SR5 TRD Pro (100k mi.) from a dealer. They listed it well below market price. Their reasoning upon further questions is because it has a small scratch on the back and the CEL occasionally comes on. They claim it is because of a gas cap issue, which I saw in the forums is fairly common. My logic tells me that if that is the only issue then why wouldn't they just replace it, fix the issue and sell the vehicle for $5k more.

I know without further inspection I won't know what other issues could be at play, but if it is just a gas cap according to the codes is it worth going for it or is this a sign of of something bigger that could be going on? I am not familiar with Tundras, so just looking for sage advice. Thank you.

Ask them if you can take it to your local guy to have it looked over, if they say no. That is a red flag already. If they say yes, take it to a mechanic you trust and have them look the truck over. Maybe they can pull a history code and see what it was, or at least see the last time it was wiped.
    Never trust a stealership...

If they say “related to gas cap” it is likely an evap system issue. That could be anything up to and including charcoal cannister, purge valve, vent valve, hoses or even fuel tank.

RUN ! A dealer selling a truck with a CEL? Truck is listed well below market price? RED FLAG in my book.

There is a zero point zero chance it’s the gas cap. If it was that easy the dealership would replace it with a $10 part and sell it for significantly more money. As mentioned above it’s probably charcoal canister issue or worse…..and if you have to get it inspected, it won’t pass in many states with an active CEL.

Thanks all for the advice, it's a SR5 TRD. I'm going to have it inspected and codes pulled at the very least. But you all seem to be in line with what I was thinking. If it's an easy fix they would have done it. Thank you.
