Awful experience for me.

As a young guy just starting to work in the restaurant biz I'm working at a steak house that had baby back ribs as an option on the menu. Not smoked at all but liquid smoke is used in the prep. Chef dares me to take a shot of the LS, I decline but say how much you gonna pay me? He gathers $25 bucks from various kitchen staff and hits me up again. I take the dare and the $25 bucks thinking I made out. Possibly the worst decision I've ever made to put that godawful shit into my body. I was burping it up for a couple of days afterwards.

they take a while to season.

Our Rudy's in Webster took about 3 months to get the pit hitting on all cylinders. it's consistently OK. very decent price.

Rudy's BBQ sauce is the Achilles heel. they need a less acidic sauce.

Except about five years ago Food updated that engine and made it an oil burner. You might also have a composite oil pan (not sure) that leaks. Hopefully those issues have been worked out by now

What if I like cadmium?

 

Used deals were all way out of state, and I was dealing with people who obviously knew nothing about vehicles. Asked for pics of the muffler and got sent two pics of the exhaust tip... twice. Couldn't trust anything I was told at that point.

Mainly, used gives me huge anxiety. I was dreading the purchase. Add to that the cost of travel, primarily in time, and it was just a bad op. I was making myself sick at the thought.

So, I went with the only new V8 with a relatively proven history. If the new Tundra had the 5.7 with a ten speed and 3.73 gears as an option I would have gone for that.

 

Went to my first Rudy's in Alburquerque years ago. Quite popular and quite decent. Definitely zero liquid smoke! The sauce is on the acidic side but I still bought a bottle of it. Rudy's is in Colorado Springs now. I should drive down and try it again. Texas BBQ style. Not too bad for a chain.

 

Good call on the V8. My Dad has been a Ford guy for a long time and all of the ones he has had have treated him well. If I ever go diesel it would likely be a Ford.
