Anyone have experience with the OEM cross bars for the roof rack? Are they good?

Many vehicles are known to having weak or flimsy OEM cross bars. Just looking to support a cargo box.

I put a big skybox on my sequoia and also worried that the two stock bars were not enough. Or tow close together. I looked for extra stock bars but could never find any. So i used some from ford (escape?). Just bolted them into the front and rear mounting brackets and they look like stock. Adds 2 extra supports in very front and rear. I didnt want a rack because the curve of the roof means the rack must be mounted higher and the skybox would be even higher. Cost me all of 40$. I can post some pics if you want to see it. I still dont know if there is any flexing but i strap the box down. I need to have someone drive next to me to see how stable she is.

Thanks for the info. Interesting find with using cross bars from an escape. I’ve been debating on aftermarket cross bars from Yakima or Rhino Rack.

I use the crossbars as anchor points for a cargo bag that we sometimes use on long trips. The weight sits on the roof though. I have aftermarket crossbars though, in case I need more support, but again the bag sits between the OEM bars. The aftermarket bars have been sitting in my garage haha
