Quick update. Saw my cardiologist today. 6 month follow up. Manny got to meet him. EKG normal. Go back in 6 months. We are not sure if my cancer pills contributed to my A Fib. My ablation and cardio version was # 9,999 that my doc performed. Manny asked him how many in total now. "Just under 12,000"! Busy guy. I'm sure I mentioned here that he wrote the EKG app for Apple Watch. Brilliant man! Unargueably the best.

Good to hear your heart checkup went well.
I had my 3 month check with the electro physician gal wrt to my pacemaker. She said I was doing well, did some wireless adjustments to the settings so my heart responds quicker to increased breathing. She said my forecast battery life is 15 years, so at 88 I’ll need a battery swap. I did see my cardiologist a couple weeks ago and he said I was doing good. My ultrasound and stress tests I did before the pacemaker install did not reveal any other issues that had to be addressed at this time. They both said come back in a year.
In the past month I have noticed walking especially hills and steps have become easier, so that is good news. No restrictions on lifting but I’m imposing a 50# limit for awhile yet. Last week I got a couple of 1/4 mile jogs with my walk and my heart rate went up higher than it has in decades. That is good news. I’d like to get up to a 5KM run in a year, provided my joints do not crap out.
Anyways good news on your cardiologist visit. My wife had afib and pvc issues, but a couple of surgeries and she is on the go all the time now.

Sounds like the two of are doing quite well. Joint pain has become a bit of an issue, not bad, but not good either. Ha!

I pee a LOT. Have been for over a year, easily. The wife has been on my ass for years to get checked. I chalked it up to the 1-1.5G water I drink per day + whatever else.
On Thursday, I gave in and emailed my PCP. Friday afternoon one of his nurses called me and went through a checklist. She asked if I can come in that same day to see an on-call doc. - sure. Appt made for 4P (soonest opening they had). They requested I stop at labs first for a UA. No problem.
I headed out at 3, and they called again. Doc wants to see me sooner if possible. Sure, I was only 15 mins out. Stopped at labs for a UA, and blood they ordered.
The medical assistant takes me to the office and wants to do a bladder scan. Ok.
She starts counting off numbers. I asked her if that’s a good thing, like a high score. “No, you just did an UA, u should have close to zero ml of liquid in ur bladder. I’m already at 173, and have more to check on you. Ended up at 207ml. Whoops.
A few moments later the doc (internal medicine) comes in “I have good and bad news for you.” (Great:rolleyes:)
The good news is, you don’t have an UTI. The bad news is your prostrate is enlarged. You have BGH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia). I have what? Can you dumb that down for me? Basically your bladder is being squeezed a lot as it’s enlarged. I believe some Flomax will help and will be your new best friend. If that doesn’t work, we’ll switch it up. Ok.
Fortunately, my PSA came back at normal levels. Current side effects of this med I’m experiencing is headaches and dizziness. They’ll prob end up switching it up, or maybe just cut me open some. I’m not opposed to being cut open.

Not so bad since PSA is normal. Stil sucks. Flomax is usually prescribed. Docs are pretty damn good. They got you!

Yeah, if side effects are a bitch, there's always more options. I hate frigging pills with a passion.

All seriousness aside, with an enlarged prostate, urine flow is constricted causing you to go often. Flomax helps increase "flow' by relaxing bladder and prostate muscles so you can empty out your bladder when you go.

Yep. She just replied to try taking it in the morning instead. If it doesn’t work, she’ll switch it to finasteride

Finasteride sounds kuul. Wonder what possible side effects it has. I was on Flomax for a month or so. With my prostate removed, plumbing had to be redone until that healed. They checked my bladder once a week for a bit until they were satisfied things were "good". Funtimes.

You only remove the prostate as a last resort to save your life or a severe quality of life issue when the prostate doesn't respond to treatment. I doubt an urologist would ever recommend prostate removal just because it's enlarged and can be successfully treated. No prostate is a game changer.

Back on the BPH medical note...I took note over the last two dates of how often I had to get up and pee. Doc is switching me to Finasteride to try. Guess we will try it out.

Matt - many thanks for your contributions to the forum - this thread being a big one. My father-in-law was just diagnosed with prostate cancer and the only reason I knew anything about any of what is going on is due to your openness and educating us numb skulls about this difficult topic.

    Appreciate you, stay well!

Thanks Adam. I have another 90 day follow up next Tuesday. Tough news for your FIL. If caught early enough, it can be managed it seems in my case. So far....

I sent the MD the last two dates of the times I had to get up and pee. She agrees the meds are clearly not working and now referred to a urologist. I see him next Wednesday

Maybe not necessary. When I got to him my prostate was normal size and weight amazingly enough. The trigger for me was the PSA of 12 with my PC doc testing. Your situation is different. When I was wheeled in to get my prostate removed, my RN that wheeled me in said, " You do know Dr Sorce is one of the top 5 in the country that does your procedure?" I'd look him up. He works out of Aurora Medical Center among others. His bio is nutz. Curriculum Vitae top notch. Top notch is a good thing.

Update. Up in Aurora. Had my 90 day followup yesterday. Previous November followup was great. Yesterday's was great too. Everything's stable. Still beating this thing going on over 7 years now. Not bad with a Gleason 9 which is highly aggressive. Back to Alamosa now. (After a stop at HD for some B&Y goodies)

Good to hear you are doing good.
My prostrate was half removed via the TURP procedure. (Pathology showed no cancer) My symptoms were the inability to pee and vacate my bladder, such that they said my bladder was over stretched tp 2 liter capacity. Still hard to believe, Burt after several years, peeing is still good and my residual capacity after relieving was now at 50 cc. I’m doing good. My pacemaker is also still doing good, after my 9 month check up via wireless monitoring.
    Stay vertical friends.
