In case anyone was wondering… you can install an oil drain plug or if your drain plug needs a gasket without draining the oil. I saw a couple videos about and decided to give it a shot today. Taped a shop vac to oil spout and turned it on and removed the drain plug. Not a single drop of oil leaked out. I was very prepared though, had drain pan and shop towels ready lol. It worked perfectly though. Put my fumoto valve on and it’s all good.

I'm shocked it worked. I would think it would be a mess, or that the vac would pull some oil out the wrong direction.

Honestly, if this consistently works, then it might be the handiest damn tip for those who forget to use a washer/gasket sometimes. :anonymous:

It worked perfectly. I used blue tape to seal off the hose to the oil fill neck. I was almost certain I heard oil getting sucked into the vac, when I got done I checked and there wasn’t a single drop of oil in it.

That's freaking awesome. Can you link one of the vids you watched? This could be sticky worthy, IMO.

Meh, some of us are interested in other peoples' ingenuity or when a theory is proven. I've seen videos of this technique too, but don't think this is something I would do. Cool though.

It's not my call. Mods decide on stickies... or @Fotnot can just make everything sticky...

I've seen these videos and considered it to put my fumoto valve on. But when there's a Fotnot project, there's typically unplanned events, swearing, and unsuspected money being spent. Glad it worked for ya. Maybe one day I'll get brave enough to try this. Same thing with putting my vehicle in reverse while doing 75+ on interstate to double check something on my trailer.
    You raaannnng?:laser:
