Has anyone had black mold grow on their roof of their 22/23’? My husband works for Toyota but he’s not sure why that would happen. He’s never seen that before. We live in FL where it’s humid but also bright and sunny.. and it looks like these moldings are where the rain would run down so I I don’t know why it would grow there.

Does anyone know of anything that would kill it but also be paint safe?

Give the whole truck a good wash / wax. I'm in SWFL and my truck sits outside all the time. I've had those spots, but the aforementioned solution fixes it and prevents it from happening for a good while.

I believe that these rain gutter channels are filled with some type of automotive caulking compound, to cover up a welding seam, and then painted with the rest of the truck during manufacturing. You’ll find that the texture of the finish paint is a little bit different there. My assumption is that mold can grab onto the surface of that area. I’d suggest trying to wash it off gently, perhaps even just some diluted white vinegar. Then wax that paint in the channel with whatever you use with the rest of the truck. A good synthetic wax or a ceramic spray wax might help protect it from mold buildup. Looks like it will need to be cleaned regularly to avoid the mold adhering.

take it toyota and have them replace it, perhaps moisture got trapped in the material somehow before the top surface was finished or something.

or, just clean it off and see if it comes back.

another reason I hate humidity, lol, Im looking to relocate to AZ in a few years, HA

Did you remove that black weather strip yourself or did it not come with it?
Reason I ask is that I have a 21 and every time I go through the car wash, that strip would get partially removed hanging by the end and looks ugly, but am not sure if it can be removed.
I mean, I hope they install parts for a reason and not just to remove it because.....

It didn’t come with stripping. I noticed it recently when I was drying it after I ran it through the local drive thru carwash.

I just used little dime size drops in several locations within the track and replaced the trim piece. Then used painters tape
to hold it in place over night. Not one single issue since.

The most benign thing I can think of to kill mold is 20 mule team borax. It doesn't take much in water. Spray or brush it on.
