Power Folding Mirrors- Boost Auto Parts

Beats me! @RainMan_PNW?

 

Makes me think they're set up to run with power fold if your truck already had it. As it stands, I bet you can detach that box and run your harness ends to those to initiate the signals needed for the folding.

 

I was wondering if the blue and yellow wires going into the main harness plug are not supposed to be there…maybe it is as you say and the mirrors are wired as if I did have power fold from the factory.

I wonder if those two are supposed to be out of that main harness with a small black plug on them for the power fold harness to plug into.

I love DIYing most thing, but I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to electronics.

I think you’re right; I’m just not sure what that Duracell-looking thing is and if it’s a year-specific thing my truck needs.

 

I also want to use the OEM power fold switch. My problem is that I can’t just splice the blue and yellow wires from boost auto to the harness that plugs into this switch because I don’t have the purple and tan wires run to the plug at the back in this pic.

Seems like I could order some pins and solder them on to my blue and yellow wires and just put them in the empty slots of the connector. What size pins do I need to run my blue and yellow wires into this connector?
Any of y’all familiar enough with the 2021 wiring to know what I need to order to plug these wires into that connector so it catches the pins of the OEM switch?

Been mowing the lawn and changing the oil…just seeing this now.

Not sure what that brick/battery looking thing is unless it’s to boost power to the motor or something.
Either way, it looks like they’ve “modularized” their harness a bit and have it prewired to the factory connector (for trucks that are already wired), but also have a connector to switch to the non-prewired harness.
Assuming the battery looking thing is there for a reason, simply unplug this connector (red circle) and then your harness with blue and yellow will connect to it.


To run these wires to the factory switch, you need to order the switch and pigtail and then move the two connectors over to your factory switch in the right positions and then attach the wires from the harness you have instead of running to a dedicated switch.

 

I just installed some boost mirrors today. Mine are not power fold, but man are they sweet! I did spring for the rear facing spot lights and they’re awesome. I just wired them to their own switch. The quality of these seems pretty good which is why I spent the extra money on the boost brand hoping they would be more solid. I’m thinking I may remove and color match the top and bottom panels at some point too. Just figured I’d share since it seemed like an appropriate thread to show off the new purchase!

I still haven't hooked up my rear facing spotlights and I even have the "high" power option

 

I opted for those as well and they’re pretty awesome. Can’t wait to try them when it gets dark this evening. I keep turning them on for fun like a little kid.

 

I have the Bajas in my 3rd brake housing and the bumper mounted pods for rear illumination.

 

That’s exactly what I was going to do—put them in the two open spots on the right end according to pics in post 26 on the first page, but the pins from the pigtail connector don’t fit in the OEM connector in my dash.

 

I tied mine into my reverse lights. If I get sick of them turning on every time I put my truck in R, I’ll run it to a dedicated switch. I also have the sequential signal 2.0.

 

I considered that as well as wiring them to the cargo light switch, but I did the dedicated switch for the time being. I had no bright reverse lights prior, so having the option to turn these on for backing up at night with 20% window tint is going to be a game changer. This is with all other garage lights off, I am pleased!

On an unrelated note, does anyone know if you can remove the top and bottom caps without taking the mirror glass out and needing to remove screws or anything? Just planning ahead for a color match down the road.

They just snap into place.
Boost sells paintable caps on their website (they are smooth instead of the slight texture) so you can do them any time and just swap them in.

 

Might need to buy two of the Toyota terminal pigtails then so that you have the right compatibility. Different connector housings can be interchangeable in shape but require a different terminal style (there are many on the OEM market).

Toyota part number 82998-12420 is the female terminal you need (two of them) to run your power fold wires into the back of the connector.

 

Ok, I just want to confirm what I need to order. Found this from Casey’s thread:

I need two pins (terminals?) that will snap into slots 9 and 10 of this connector.

Yes, just order paintable caps. I just snapped mine into place tonight. I rattle canned ‘em.
1 can Rust-Oleum Adhesion Promoter (it’s primer for plastic)
1 can of Toyota 6v7 from a local paint shop
1 can 2k clear finish with hardener.

Two coats adhesion promoter 15 minutes between coats
30 minutes later, 4 coats 6v7 with 15 minutes between sets
1 hour later, 3 coats of 2k clear with 15 minutes between.

Waited till the next day to snap them into place.

 

Those aren’t the right terminals for that housing.

Ok, Boost Auto said I need to keep those big Duracell battery-looking things in. This basically makes it so I can't reach the plug unless I thread the boost auto wire through the door into the mirror housing. I could do that with a second set of hands, but seems it would be a cleaner install if I just wire my blue and yellow boost auto power fold harness to the OEM connector on my door (circled in the pic below) and leave the mirrors wired as if I had power folding from the factory.

What pins/terminals do I need for this connector? Same part number as what I bought for the mirror adjust switch in the dash?

Unchartered territory for me here. I can't remember if I had a terminal like that on my door - almost looks like a sail speaker harness.

 

It’s the main connector to the mirror, the first thing you unplug when you remove your OEM mirrors. Boost Auto wired my mirrors as if my truck is wired for power fold. So the mirror side of this connector is wired for it; the truck side is not. I’d like to just splice into this connector so I can properly keep that other part of the circuit Boost Auto said I need to keep.

If I’m reading @RainMan_PNW ’s Power Fold post in his thread correctly, this is the door connector NJ1 and takes these 1.5 terminals:

Edit: looking at the terminals, it seems the male ends are in the mirror connector, and I need two female ends for each mirror. Is that correct?
