Not entirely correct, they previously reccomended both Tacoma and Tundra to purchase due to high reliability and longevity. They continue to reccomend Toyota and Lexus as a brand overall primarily for the same reasons. Yes they will point out where competing models differ across the board beyond jus reliability., but if you read how they calculate the ratings reliability and longevity play a big role. IE they will not reccomend a vehicle they determine through their ownership and surveys of their members to be unreliable vs its competitors.

It's even more fun to see how quickly the Gen 3 owners are getting butthurt over ANYTHNG negative said on the forum about their precious new Tundras.
I don't own a Gen 3, I drove one for a week, but I do read about the problems and issues the Gen 3 owners post DAILY, sometimes hourly, on this forum..

    …agree to disagree…

If I have zero previous experience with Tacomas and only watched CR’s video review of the Tacoma, I would never have bought it.

I am not being an a$$, but do you work for them?

I have had two similar conversations with two former employees and have had the same response (defending).

Is CR still out there shilling their nonsense? I have not given them even a glance in 30 years or longer.

The VQ3.8L naturally aspirated V6 has 310HP. Definitely scoots down the road. Fun times like my V8 Tunnies! The CR report is iffy. Predicted reliability is simply that. New gen bugs are usually a quick fix and will skew the stats early on. The new gen Frontier's JATCO (Mercedes) 9 speed transmission needed to have a shift mapping ECU update and that skewed early Frontier reliability numbers. I got the flash done and transmission shifts as expected. My Frontier's vin fell under the stupid parking pawl recall. Got a new parking pawl. A bad batch of stupid parking pawls. The pawl wouldn't catch and if your Frontier wasn't in park, it could roll away. It was first noted at the Canton, Miss plant where the Frontier is built. They drove out a newly built Frontier and parked it. Park brake wasn't set and it decided to roll away on it's own. Kind of funny but could be bad. I always set my brake. Overall, not a big deal to get corrected. Yes, things do happen it seems more often than not with new vehicles rolling out!

Let’s check in 5 years. Seriously if a 2023 or ‘24 Ram is still “better” than the same year Tundra in 2029 then I’ll kiss the Pope’s ass, and I’m a Lutheran.

You dont own a third gen but drove one for a week, that doesnt make you have any credibility to the vehicle.

I do own one. So far its been a great vehicle for me. Every vehicle out there has a forum with peoiple complaining about something.
Funny part about this place is the previous generation folks constantly are on here looking for issues and then boast about how their previous generation vehicles are better.
If anything these comments would be better served in a forum that caters to the vehicles you do own.

I think all of the fanboys here, myself included, can agree that Toyota has quite a bit of work ahead to build/regain the trust of its tundra customers re: the 3rd gen rollout.

Nothing new here. I already know that the interior design approach/fit finish is the same Toyota mindset as what I got used to on my 17 Tacoma and 13 Sequoia. I’m already crossing my fingers on everything else, same as I would with any of the other trucks. I already consider CR as one useful place to look for clues and I assume that I have the same finely honed bullshit detector that most people have.

And I already consider myself to be one of the Consumer Test Dummies that’s helping make it perfect for those that might join in the fun down the road. You’re welcome.

Because it's a constant barrage of shit. This forum is overrun by it and I think half of it is made up... "I started an account here to make a post to tell everyone I'm buying a Ford/Dodge instead" isn't meaningful enthusiast forum content. Sure, some folks have come across real issues too, but like all things Internet the negative opinions/content gets amplified.

Actually driving a 2023 Platinum for a week was enough to know I wouldn't want to purchase one.
So yes, it does give me credibility, at least I had the experience.

I'm not the one complaining about your precious Gen 3, you Gen 3 owners do enough of that on your own.
I'm not constantly searching for Gen 3 issues either, they are right there on the front page EVERY DAY when I open the website.
The constant posts of the Gen 3 owners complaining about this and that, the recall (take your pick), the cracked driver's panel, the mirrors falling off, and the multitude of other complaints FROM THE GEN 3 OWNERS..

I never stated anything about my truck being better than any Gen 3.
As well I will post whenever and wherever I choose to on the forum and certainly don't need your permission to do so.

You just validated my only point which is how butthurt you Gen 3 owners get when anyone says something negative about your truck.
My comment had nothing to do with the truck itself, it was about the humorless owners like yourself who take everything said about your Gen 3 so personally.

Just so everyone knows - CR doesn't do the ranking in any way shape or form. The owners who are subscribers to CR send annual updates on their vehicles rating them in all functions including reliability. This applies to all items they rate. Sure they test but reliability expectations only come from one place - the people like you and I

yawn….like I said, vehicles are easy to replace, people are not, the newer ones are safer and you are a bafoon to try and argue otherwise, I’ll take the safer one.

Bahahah you drove it for a solid week, so you know what you are talking about. That right there gave me a good laugh.
You have zero skin in the game. There's nothing wrong with enjoying your previous gen Tundra.

Make sure to pad yourself on the back for keeping the older Tundra you enjoy.
If that makes you feel superior in your own mind, have at it hoss.

As for issues? Sheet happens in my book.
I personally dont go into forums for vehicles I dont own and then start trash talking about them.
You comments on the feelings of owners.... why do you care? I own one, I like my ride. Sorry to burst that bubble.
I cant comment (like you) on the previous gen as I never owned one hench the reason why I dont post in other gen tundra forums.

    as for life.....
Every vehicle I have ever owned has had issues. Why should the Tundra (any vintage) be any different.
I have an extended warranty just for peace of mind. It blows up? Its Toyota's problem to make me happy.

BTW I dont feel I am in some for of denial about my Tundra.... There are things I can do without on it.
As an example... Too much technology. The bells and whistles are nice gimmicks but its a truck, they should have kept them simple.
They could have made the trucks cheaper without the toys and saved the gimmick technology for the Lexus line.

^ If any of this were true, you wouldn't bother responding to my posts and you never would have quoted me in the first place.
Not sure how you read so much into what little I posted.

I drove a gen 3 and did not care for it.
Besides that, they are butt ugly.
Why the fuck do you care what I think of a Gen 3?

Where did I state I was superior?
I did not, that comes from your own personal sense of inadequacy.

Why is it you feel so singled out when anyone posts anything about a Gen 3?
I never stated anything negative about the truck, just some of the people that own them.
You Sir, Ma'am, them, they, he, she, it are a prime example.

I didn't initially quote your post.
You quoted mine in some sense of self-defense, again, due to your own personal sense of inadequacy.
I don't give a fuck about you, your truck, or your extended warranty.

All you have done in this thread is prove my point about how ridiculous some of the Gen 3 owners act when they feel threatened by any negativity about their Tundra.
    So thank you for that.

Find yourself a nice quiet safe space, hug your teddy, and put your pacifier in your mouth.
Everything is going to be OK.
Just take a deep breath and repeat, it's going to be OK, it's going to be OK, it's going to be OK.

This is soooo ironic that the base word "irony" is no longer sufficient. A new word must be crafted.

    Arsenicic.
    Potassiumic.
    Plutoniumic!
