Hi, new here . I’m sure this is a common question but here goes…
Just purchased a 2019 Tundra Platinum from an elderly gentleman who only put 7200 original miles on it. The pillar sticker clearly states max payload at 1185 lbs , and GVW at 7200 lbs. The thing is, the truck with my options is listed as having a curb weight of 5670 lbs. I know you will say follow the pillar sticker
    but 7200-5670 is 1530 lbs?
Why the difference? Thanks in advance for any help. J.

Only way to know for sure it to weight the truck. Can't use figures found online, they are generally not very accurate.
Platinum has lots of add ons, so would weight more than a similar sr5. Payload figures found online are quite generous and often show several hundred more than actual.

The sticker is based on your actual truck as equipped and if the dealer did any add ons then it will have another yellow sticker showing payload with any additions they made, such as topper, bed cover, side steps, bed liner, etc.

Considering my payload on my 2016 sr5 is like 1260, 1185 sound about right. Your truck surely has more electronics, leather, and other items that add weight quickly.

All that said, the Tundra are quite capable for hauling and towing, but are half tons and have a bit lower payload. Heck, even 2500 series trucks these day often dont have payloads over 1600, due to all the electronics, safety stuff, etc.

    None....
    1425 on 2wd doublecab SR5.

Use your sticker for your truck.

I disagree about 2500 trucks not having payloads over 1600 pounds. Most 1500 silverados and f150 have payloads at or over 1600. A 2024 chevy/Ram 2500 or f250 should be 2500 to 4000 pound payload.

Yeah, really about the only way to see actual weight is to put it on a scale, my numbers are off by a couple hundred, after market steel bumper add 100, PP skid plates add 250, aftermarket step bars add 200, etc, I added a Helwig helper spring so I could dump a bucket of dirt in the back to keep the truck off the bump stops. Works pretty well for what I need.

@Bellacamps Toyota is known for conservatively estimating the door jamb numbers. I’d be curious what your curb weight truly is. Take it to a CAT scale bone stock with a full tank of fuel, and weigh it with nothing and no one in it. That will tell you your true curb weight.

Subtract that number from GVWR, and you’ll have your true payload rating. Some 3rd gen owners have found their door jamb rating to be up to a couple hundred pounds off.
