Bought my FGT from my friend who also has a FGT. He got it as a parts truck for 800 then flipped it to me for 500 having only taken off a fender. It runs. Barely. 203k miles. Misfire on cylinder 5, 4wd don't work (claimed stripped front diff gears but we'll see) catalytic converters look cooked. Plenty of frame rust (it was an Idaho truck). Tires brakes suspension all shot. I wrote up a quick list to see what all the important and cosmetic stuff would cost and I ended up right around th $4k mark

Swapped coils on 5 and 3 and the misfire moved. Junkyard later today to see what sequoias and tundras haven't been. Completely cannibalized yet.

welcome to the forum ! When I first got my 2006 1st gen I had to throw some parts at it its been a great truck. 4500 dollars isn't a bad deal for a 4x4 truck.

Some background on myself: I build automated industrial machines for work. I've been comfortable taking s**t apart longer than I can remember. I wont talk about putting some of them back together:rofl:. Bikes are my main mode of transportation. a couple MTB's hardtail and enduro; I was a bicycle mechanic for a while. A honda xr80r for messing around in the dirt, a kawasaki z125 pro is my daily driver, and a clean 07 Ninja 250 is my "fast" bike.(Dont worry I had my fill of REAL fast bikes. Had a few different 650s and 800s, rode some Liter+ bikes a few times. :bikewheelie:I found I prefer squeezing everything I can out of a small displacement motor to riding a supersport at 10% all the time)
The wife drives a 98 corolla that I fixed up real nice from my old manager, and I have been wrenching on my 02 suburban since before I had my license and my parents sold it to me.
My mental illnesses include refusing to let old high mileage vehicles die (200+k miles is my sweet spot lol) and losing track of time every time I go into my garage(My wife never shouldve let me put a beer fridge in there.)
Ive never had a truck with a proper bed, the burb was just too good to want anything else. Back in February we bought a house on .28 acres; my wife is a huge gardener so I wanted something to bring in soil and haul out yard waste. Ive used the suburban for the same tasks in the past but I always end up having to clean out the whole interior and a trailer wont fit down my long skinny driveway and past the garage to the garden.

My best friend originally picked up my truck to fix his own first gen after he hit a deer. There were no junkyards within reasonable distance to him. After he took the body stuff he needed he offered it to me for $500 since I was headed up to do a backpacking trip with him and some of our old college friends. I was itching for a project too so I hitched my FIL's trailer up to the burb and drove up to the mountains of Idaho to drag it home to Utah where tundras are more popular and parts are a little easier to find.
