I received the components to create a proper spare that a seventy thousand dollar vehicle should have come with in the first place: shame on you Toyota!

Part 2:

So I compared the two. The supplied spare has a sticker that says "Temporary Use Only", not something I want to use on a full size truck, ever. My truck just cost me another thousand dollars due to penny pinching by Toyota. Shamefu.l To add insult to injury, the spare tire supplied was not even balanced: no weights on it at all.








To program it, my old version of Techstream did NOT work on this truck. However, to Toyota's credit, they made the process easy from the dash options. I went into Vehicle Settings > TPWS > Relearn and here are the before and after results:

 

The specs state "full size spare" however full size spare only means that it fits and is approximately the same width and diameter. The sad truth is that even the 2024 $45k to $65k Tacoma is also coming with temp spare tires. Through the 2023 models even a basic $25k Tacoma SR had an actual full size spare that was not a temporary spare. I don't think many 4 x 4 Tundra owners will be comfortable off roading with a temp useless spare. This is just part of the Toyota USA pay more get less business model.

 

How do you like the dash cam? Why did you ultimately choose this model? Would you buy it again?

 

Finally wired the trd marker lights. took it to Minute Maid to see the Astros lose and when I got home I smelled coolant. Yay.

A tidbit: The lugnuts for the four proper wheels are flat seat, but the steelie "full size" spare takes conical seat lug nuts. Whose bright idea was this, I wonder? As far as I am concerned, the provided spare is simply not safe for purpose. If I am going to keep this as a usable temporary spare to throw in a trailer as a backup to the proper spare (that I spent $1k to get for myself), I have to locate six proper lug nuts for it and tape them to the wheel along with whatever wrench I would need to use them, since they may take a different size.

Why, Toyota, why?! $70K was not enough?

 

It’s a plug & play amplifier that gives you extra clarity and extra punch. Before installing, the system was moderately loud at a volume level of 50. I set the gain at about 3/4 on the Beatsonic amp and that sound level was achieved at a volume level around 30. The sound seems much clearer. It takes about 15-20 minutes to install and does not require additional power supply.

 

They just pull right out. I finally gave it some throttle. Man this truck scoots, lol. I couldn’t tell much difference with the turbos but the radio was at a low level. I have AFE Prodry air filters.

 

Yes, pretty simple to remove ! With them gone you can hear those little snails more and I would think it allows a lot more air in vs sharing the air boxes with a couple of sleeping bags lol

 

I read through some user experiences here, and then watched many videos on youtube, including other brands. It has every feature I wanted which was the ability to capture video when the truck is parked. Video quality is very good. Install was a breeze using the OBD port, and running the wire to the rear was easy. I would highly recommend the mounting bracket I purchased for rear installation. Its not a cheap setup compared to most others, came in at $480 plus $20 for the rear mount.

 

I don’t think so since they stay at the bottom of the air box. They don’t restrict airflow. The turbo noise is nice though, lol.

 

It looks like many manufacturers are considering a transition to 10k mile tires on new vehicles. Kinda like printer ink...gets you started but you need to buy better tires real soon. Sucks!

 

I think the stock Falkens are adequate tires, at least for my current usage, but the spare provided is a disgrace. You are right in that cost cutting is getting to the point of being ridiculous now.

 

Planning to get 275/60/20 on my limited. Any rubbing? Thanks!

 

None...Youd have no problems running these stock

 

When the time comes, I would consider 275/65/20s if they fit on the stock suspension. What say you?

 

theyll fit. 65s were way more money than 60s in my case....stuck with 60s because of that, not due to potential fitment issue

 

Absolutely love it! What bumper is that. The setup IMO is awesome.

 

Interesting couple of days ! With the sound bags removed and trd filters installed I haven’t experienced a dead pedal . I got it the first 10 mins of driving the new truck . Stopped at stop sign kinda sudden , hit the gas and blah. I pulled the crap and installed filters and put 500kms on in 2 days . No dead pedal ! Hmm , so if Toyota designed an airbox that size to work with the turbos , intake / map sensor / maf etc etc . Then , you get a tight arse in quality control that doesn’t like the sound of turbos spinning and ends up implementing a fix that cuts off half the airbox volume ?? Wtf ? It’s new so I’ll update as it goes but if you’re wondering if it makes a difference . Pull that crap and install filters that can breathe and let me know . Really curious about the comments, if you try it !

 

What mode did you drive it in? I drive mine in normal. I floored it for the first time and it took it a second or two to finally get going.

 

Not turbo or Tundra related but a very similar experience. Back in 2016 I bought a new Tacoma Sport V6. Several times while attempting to dart across an intersection with oncoming traffic, I was immediately greeted with a deadly 'blah' sound and no acceleration. I immediately bought a K&N cold air intake. That eliminated the stall. I subsequently added a throaty better breathing Gibson exhaust. These did not add hp. They did cure the terrible stall/throttle lag at full throttle. That truck was unsafe in my opinion. Must be a flaw in the engineering.

 

I tend to drive in normal mode on highways . Sport around town , lots of hills here and a noticeable difference in tip in throttle now . The 23 has 23k kms now and I have experienced dead pedal since day one . Not all the time by any means but let me tell ya ,, when you need to get out in traffic and nothing happens , it’s a white knuckle event for too long . So , I’m pulling the sound bags in that one tomorrow . I’ll leave the stock air filters for comparison. I’ll get back with results .
