Has anyone here ever had a hobby grade rc truck with NiCd batteries completely obliterate itself at 50mph when it smashes a concrete culvert like I have? Batteries and 2 wheels were the only thing that survived. Rc trucks bash hard and get literally tortured and you rarely hear of battery failures, they are constantly beat on till they can't hold a charge. I had one LiPo battery catch fire due to a puncture during a top speed run where I lost control and hit metal post, and again, complete obliteration beyond repair.

Batteries are more robust than you think, especially coming from an auto manufacturer where lives are literally at stake, and they could potentially lose more money than toyotas frame fiasco if lots of failures were to occur.

I'm confident the batteries will be just fine, and no amount of offroading you do will even phase it in the slightest

I understand why people get charged up but its best to stay grounded in these situations.

Apparently KIA and Hyundai are in the hot seat for hundreds of people's vehicles catching fire resulting in injuries and 1 death. All batteries generate heat and need airflow to cool them, especially at the scale we're using them. Batteries can also release gasses if compromised, placing them inside of a cab is a terrible idea. So what happens when you live in a cold climate and need to run the heater or rather what happens if the cooling fans stop working. Fan motors can often fail after a couple years of use. How fast can you removed three children from their seat restraints in the event of a fire. Now, NiMH batteries are typically safe and usually don't result in catching fire like Lithium Ion. I've researched hybrid vehicles quite extensively and after seeing all the houses catching on fire and injuries involved with compromised batteries. I've decided to just stick with good ole fossil fuels until more research and development has made the use of battery packs safe to use for driving. I've said it time and again, Lithium Ion and Nickel batteries have issues with dendrites. These dendrites cause the batteries cells to expand and rupture which can lead to overheating/fires and discharge hazardous gases and corrosive chemical burns. I'll buy an electric vehicle when they start using a safer solid state battery aka Solid-state sodium ion batteries (SSSBs).

Solid-state sodium ion batteries (SSSBs) are a potential alternative to lithium-ion batteries that could be more sustainable and less expensive. They have several advantages over lithium-ion batteries, including:
    • Lower cost
Sodium is more abundant and less expensive than lithium, which could help reduce costs and mitigate supply chain constraints.
    • Higher energy density
SSSBs can use sodium metal as the anode for higher energy density.
    • More stable ceramic electrolyte
SSSBs have a more stable ceramic electrolyte that is not flammable like current liquid electrolytes.
    • Safer
All-solid-state batteries do not use liquid electrolytes, eliminating the risk of leakage and gassing.

This kind of content above right here is what actually makes this forum fun....

Hey at least @D3PU7Y actually posted in a thread rather than create a new thread...he gets a gold star for that..
