For me the squeaky brakes when in reverse is just so annoying and can be embarrassing. Also my radio button also fell off.

    My first post here.
Hardcore Toyota person here. All my life I have had toyotas, Corolas, camrys, 4runners, my wife had a lexus.
Was waiting a long time for the gen 3 toyota , my hope was it would be a diesel. Finally I understood it is not gonna happen so I bought a 2024 Platinum on Dec 8th 2023, built 11/5/2023.
While driving home all four molding almost fell off. Next day I found 3-4 paint imperfections which Toyota tried to polish but burned the clear coat. It was not done at the dealership because I received pre pre-ordered vehicle 1/2 hour after it arrived.

In the mid January while accelerating on the HWay the vehicle started jumping like there was not enough fuel and the motor died. All warning lights went on. Parked on the side and tried to start the motor again. It started alright but the warning lights were still on. Restarted it multiple times and they went off one by one. Keep driving, but every time I tried to accelerate the vehicle started jumping. Made an appointment with the local dealership. The first available was on Feb the 2nd 2024.
After one week at the dealership they called me and said the problem was the fuel pump which was replaced, the vehicle was checked and ready to go home.

Picked up and tried to accelerate, the issue still was there, returned to the dealership, took the technician with me to show him that they did nothing.

They left the vehicle and after another week they called me just to tell me they are still working on it. A couple of days later they called again just to say that the problem is in the main harness which is on national backorder with no ETA as well and the moldings.

Meanwhile I was constantly in contact with toyota headquarters just to listen to s***t load of lies. I opened a buyback/lemon case. After another 30 days I received a decline letter for the reason " ...we do not believe that Toyota failed to repair your vehicle". It was already about 40 days since the car was at the dealership
When I tried to get clarification the answer i got" It is a final decision and no other explanation will be provided".

After months back and forth, promises and more lies I opted to file a complaint with KY GA. This time after another 30 days all parts magically appeared and the Service Manager promised repair would be done by Thursday 06/13/2024 ( it was tuesday 06/11/2024 when they started working on it).
Needles to say no call on Thu Or Fri. and for some reason the car was disconnected from my phone app.

On Friday evening i was finally able to connect to my car just to find out the bunch of warnings on it and an empty gas tank. I left it almost full. During Thursday they somehow were able to put 310 miles on it.

On monday i called myself just to hear : "We replaced the molding and the harness, however, the problem is still there. Now we are waiting for some special technician from Toyota who is able to see what is going on.

Technician finally came on friday 06/21/2024 and in 15 minutes he found debris in one of the "Y" connectors. It was replaced and the car is GTG.

After "only" 6 month it was fixed.

The funniest part of it, the next day I received notification that the second FOB is ready, after only a 7 month wait.

On 07/01/2024 I went to pair the fob. On my way back I received an email that Toyota agreed to buy back my car.
    FINALLY!!!!!!!!!

24 here. No issues. I never test drive or spend more than a few minutes reviewing before I buy cars, I know what I’m buying. But I spent 30min before I signed on the tundra and reviewed everything. Fit and finish is perfect on mine, in and out. Ive been very impressed.

was going to buy another heavy duty truck prior to looking at the tundra, but after going to see the 2500 Chevy ZR2, and essentially having half the dash come off while I was looking for QC issues, I passed. Massive gaps in body panels also. My heavy duty ram is perfect.

look it over, and take the deal. My 2c. The incentives were great.

Wow, what a nightmare. To think that we're discussing the once-reliable, venerable Tundra truck is ridiculous.

I used to think so, but the biggest problem is not the car, the biggest turn off is the treatment i received from the Toyota headquarters. Just disgusting.
When you buy shevy or gmc, you know what you are buying and ready.

BTW, yesterday, after posting i saw that the right step stopped folding. This car is plagued with problems

Anyway, Now i consider to buy a 2019-2021 tundra or go for F150-F250. I hope they will take this garbage from me soon.

    John,
Sorry to hear what hell they put you through. Very disappointing to hear this what Toyota customer service has evolved to. Glad to hear that they approved the buy-back. May I ask if they will give you the entire purchase price back?

You deserved far better. Good luck in what happens here, pulling for you with some relief from all of it. The "'24" factor is an eye-opener, still much work to be done.

My advice, if you look at everything going on with the 3rd gen, gas line issues, seat trim issues, and motor issues and you still want one would push hard for a fat discount and possibly a extended warranty. Or if you don't need a new truck right now hold off for the 25's as that's when hopefully Toyota gets the QC issues addressed.

If my parking garage at work was 6 inches taller, this truck would be gone in a second for a Superduty, GMC 3500.

just bought used 2023 tundra 1794. the radio knob that says power/vol broke off when i attempted to turn up the volume. it appeared as if the previous owner had glued the knob in place. now the dealer is telling my wife that it's a design flaw, the knob only controls power but volume can only be controlled at steering wheel. is the dealer feeding my wife BS?

Yes. I’ve managed to keep mine in tact and use it to control the volume as much as I use the buttons on the steering wheel.
**He may mean NOW you can only use it to power on/off and you have to use the buttons to control volume, and yes it is a cheap-o plastic design flaw. Many have had them replaced and some forego the OEM knob for printed or billet knobs.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/volume-knob.144217/#post-3625031

The second post in that thread is where somebody bolstered the sleeve inside with a piece of cutdown .45 brass cartridge, and many who have used heat shrink wrap, JBL weld enforcing, etc to strengthen the sleeve.

The Tundra is an interesting study case quality control wise. Engine aside, there are people experiencing every known issues from 22s thru 24s. And others like me with 22s that have had zero issues.

Inside quality there is the concept that issues assumed resolved can reoccur later in production. Usually the issue analysis will include lessons learned such as recurring testing to ensure the issue does not reintroduce.

Keep in mind, there are THOUSANDS of people that read this forum that are quite content and happy with their vehicle like I am. Not to mention even more that dont have accounts. Much like the news, bad or sensationalist posts get the most attention.

I agree. Squeaky wheels make it there mission in life to post on every site 20 times a day about their displeasure.

I still have think the variance in quality for Gen 3 Tundra seems higher and more periodically random than a Toyota rollout for sure. My hypothesis is the biggest variable is which trim package you bought. That maybe Toyo did not really stagger different trims over model year 1 but did a simultaneous release; maybe some trim pieces or features did not get sweated. Or maybe the more you paid or the longer you waited to buy the pickier you are. Or a mix of both

I only have one complaint about my 24 TRD Off Road non Hybrid; The vehicle quit running at 312 miles and when I sent it in for warranty repair (I figured it was something electronic as I only had it for a month and rarely drove it.

When the folks at Viva Toyota in Las Cruces got it, they contacted me to let me know that I had put contaminated gas in it and it was not a warranty failure. Hmmm. They recommended I contact my insurance company and file a claim for the repair cost (projected to be somewhere north of $13,000). I paid it because I paid for the car in cash when I bought it and didn't have a co-owner to help litigate this manufacturing quality defects. I am on my own and I am another screwed 3rd gen Tundra owner. Lets see what the court has to say. But, for sure I will never step foot in that dealership unless there is a house cleaning for the general manager and the service manager! There are other dealers (Silver City, El Paso) in the area that would not pull this shit.I recommend if you are of the mind to buy a Toyota, avoid Viva Toyota of Las Cruces, NM!

    A couple of facts here:

-I only put 300 miles on the vehicle in the 33 days of ownership.
-I never put fuel in the tank. It was down by the dealer at sell off. It was full when I accepted the (1 set) of keys. They filled the 32 gallons tank as required (sticker statement, of full tank of gas).
-The dealer stated that they smelled something sweet in the fuel.
-My insurance company (I made the claim that there was some nefarious action going on) sent out an inspector to test the fuel in the vehicle. He sampled the fuel and sent it to a lab for testing.
-The lab tested the fuel and found no contamination. My insurance company refused to pay for a; in their words a "warranty repair".
-The dealership referred me to arbitration. Arbitration did not have the fuel report in time for their decision, They ruled in favor of Toyota.
-I re-applied for arbitration because of the fuel report not being available at arbitration. The arbitrator saw the report and rejected further arbitration.
-I am currently in litigation to make Toyota take the vehicle back and give me my money back so I can find a 2nd generation (used) Tundra for my needs.
-I no longer drive that Toyota because I cannot rely on it (there are large distances between places I would normally take the truck across empty desert). It sits in the garage collecting dust.

I used to drive Toyota's for reliability and quality. The 3rd gen Tundra is no longer a vehicle I would consider reliable for me to want to use it any more. I had a 2018 Tundra and should have kept it. Big mistake for sure.

Good luck with your 3rd gens.

2024 SR5 with 7000 miles burning oil, front camera with cruise control and crash avoidance needs replacing, had one spark plug replaced at 6000 miles miss firing (maybe the same cylinder that is burning oil now. Waiting on dealer to pick me up and get rental.
One week later with a rental/loaner car.
This IS the same cylinder that had the spark plug replace and for the same reason. It was oil fouled and misfiring. It has been a week and today the dealer got the word to do a compression test and a leak down test. I'll keep checking back. I trust the shop and Toyota will do the right thing. This dealer has not seen this in any other 2024 but many 2022 and 2023.

As a retiree from a Toyota factory, I've seen first hand for years the attention to detail and quality that Toyota strives for. They are of course not immune to issues like any manufacturer, but they will take care of issues rather quickly. Coming from a plant that produced close to 2500 vehicles a day with all shifts, it's easy to see how quickly things can go south if an issue arises.
Coming from a Ford F250 with only 30k miles that had 12 recalls, oil leak, death wobble, I was always worried what would be next.
Now, with a new Tundra, (I no longer need to tow heavy) my worry is gone, and if an issue comes up, I'll have no problem getting it resolved, I've been worn out by Ford & sure don't want to go down that road again. I drive my new Tundra worry free.

Just got my 24 Limited Off-Road on Labor Day weekend. Within a week the front camera went black. Dealership said they have not seen this before in the 24 so they want to keep it overnight. So lame.

Got a 24 Platinum this September. Here’s my list:

    - Jerky acceleration between 20 and 30 mph. I actually experienced this during the test drive and said something to the sales guy. His reply? “Punch it and see how much power she has!” He did a good job distracting me because of course it has a lot of power when you punch it and I ended up buying the thing. Problem has been there ever since. I’m not sure if it’s the same issue the other threads here talking about acceleration lag or not. I’ve done a bunch of experimentation. It really seems related to the transmission and the fact that the thing wants to start off in about fourth gear.

    - JBL Soundsystem rattles the passenger side door with any my level of base.

This is really all the complaints I have so far but currently only have about 1700 miles on it.

When the steering wheel slams back & forth by itself & you cannot control it unless you slow way down. It can happen on a motorcycle as well, but Fords are known for it with the straight axle front ends. They only bandaid the problem for years without a real fix. Look up death wobble on youtube, it's scary.

See if there is a software update for your vehicle, that may cure your drivability issue between 20 and 30

Picked up our 24 in November of 23. Have put 14,000 miles on it and have loved every minute. Hopefully no problems will occur (knock on wood) but only real issue I’ve had is the precollision system slamming the truck to a stop when traffic starts to move. Have almost been rear ended because of it. I’ve learned to let traffic go for 1-2 seconds and then accelerate, and never try to accelerate into traffic from driveways. I guess it’s safer driving but their safety system is going to get someone killed one of these days.
