I’m considering a used 2019 but the CARFAX states in the 4 years it’s been on the road it’s only gotten an oil change once a year (4x in 4 years, previous owner putting on low miles ~6k -annually). My understanding is with synthetic has always been 5k or 6 months, which ever comes first. Should I be concerned about oil degradation, or potential leaks or damage to the engine? Besides that the trucks history seems pretty clean. Should it be enough of a concern to pass on it?

That would not be a disqualifier for me.

Not a dealbreaker for me, but I’d keep it to a 5k mile OCI from here on out.

I’d also add a trans cooler and start doing drain & fills every 30k miles.

Good to go. Time to get it broken in, needs about 100k to start.

I think their reasoning behind the time interval (not mileage) is that oil can become water entrained over time. I think it's bs, any trace of water will cook out as soon as you get the engine hot and drive it a few miles. Then they mention something about acids, but even newer used engine oil would have these same "acids" wouldn't they?

I wouldn't let it get in the way of a reasonable deal at all.

I wouldn't worry about it, I have a couple vehicle's that only get annual oil changes since they don't see a lot of miles, my FJ40 being one of them.

The maintenance schedule that came with my Tundra specifically states to do oil changes at 10k miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. The previous owner was probably just following that guidance, so I wouldn't even flinch.

I've been doing annual oil changes with Amsoil in all of my vehicles since 2001. Never an engine issue whatsoever. But I did notice easier starting and an increase in MPG of .5 to 1.

My tacoma gets so few miles, I only change it every 18 months or so. With whatever oil is the cheapest, usually non synthetic. Haven't had an issue with that.

I change every 5k, ends up being about 10 months or so. I've done two used oil analysis from Blackstone Labs and no issues with it.

I dont really buy that motor oil goes bad in a year. nor do I think a car needs a 3,000 mile oil change. All marketing crap to sell more oil and oil changes.

When oil mixes with gasoline, it degrades regardless if it’s park or driving.

BMW does annual oil changes. My Lambo had 3 oil changes in 7 years, it was a 1500hp beast and got beat on every drive, when it went back to UGR for a refresh they didn't find anything wrong.

Underground racing built TT. was around 1000 on pump gas, and 1550 on C16. Beat the hell out of it for years, not a single issue.

I to am at yearly changes with Amsoil and have been doing the yearly for years. If you feel like you want peace of mind send it out to blackstone labs to get an analysis. But with that said I do change based upon mileage as well basically one year or 7000-10,000 miles depending on seasonal heat.

At the end of the day if changing the oil more frequently gives anyone peace of mind, then Id say its worth every penny
