Hot damn, I'm way too excited for this.

This is post power wash, dawn dish soap, detail brush.

I may not be able to resist a flatbed build on top of a suspension build.

How long is the truck going to be on jack stands?
Winner gets a hand drawn spider.

I'd be tempted to replace that spare tire crank while the bed is off. Frame looks good!

you're gonna get the suspension knocked out today, take it off jackstands, and get a vid of dale bustin' wicked bedless donuts (but not on gravel unless you have some trailer fenders to tack on).

    edit: 2 days, because paint.

bet i drove around a week like this waiting on a rainy day.

You know you gotta LSPV delete while you're in there, right? I mean, it'll make everything look so clean.

Checked the power steering fluid this morning cold. Seems OK. Had a tasty IPA from Liquid State in Ithaca, NY.

    I also forgot...
Some of the 2006 xB’s came with steering wheel controls, but all the 2006.5 xB’s did come with steering wheel controls AND an AUX port and an ipod port in the center console (under the E brake handle). I adapted a 2006.5 steering wheel controls and the audio ports into my 2005. It was NOT a fun task. It was around 8 years ago, and there was little to no documentation. It took me close to a week to sort all the individual wires out and not have any warning lights pop up in the speedometer display (and i even had the factory service manuals for both 2005 and 2006.5 to use as a reference). I had the whole darn dash removed from the xB, and wires were going every which way but loose. The wire harnesses were completely different between the the two years. I told myself i would never do that again. And that’s why i’ve been hesitant to even read through the tundra steering wheel controls sticky!

I’ve had a handful of the xB’s. At one point i had a one 2005 and three 2006.5 Release Special 4.0 Maziora Torched Penny models...all at the same time! The Torched Penny paint was so expensive, that it cost me less money to just buy another RS 4.0 and swap individual body parts around. Back around 2015 a quart of that paint was an astounding $680! Plus it required a special primer and base coat. I would simply wait and find another Xb the same color on copart.

The 1gen also didn’t come with a cruise control from the factory. It was a dealer add on. Rostra made the cruise control for all the scion dealers. You can also buy the exact same cruise control unit from Rostra now.

Also look for the dealer add on center armrest support. It’s just a cheaply built plastic armrest that sits in a rear cup holder, but it makes all the difference in the world to have it, and most xBs don’t have one.

The traction control kinda sucks on the 1st gen. It’s REALLY aggressive in a bad way. If one tire is spinning (such as gravel, ice, snow, ect) it will apply the brake on the opposite wheel. There is a TRAC OFF button, that will bypass that little problem, but is does NOT cancel out the yaw sensor!!! So if you’re drifting down a gravel road or going sideways in the snow or ice, the computer will automatically lock up all the tires and try to throw the vehicle into the ditch! From all my research, there’s no way to delete the yaw sensor (and keep the ABS). I ended up wiring in a bypass switch that turns both those systems off. I’d REALLY like to keep the ABS, but those two systems are intertwined.

Is there any definitive way to distinguish a 2006.5 from a 2006, other than expecting pics of the steering wheel controls and potentially the aux/ipod ports?

No way to distinguish between the two, you just have to visually look for it. But in order to get the aux ports, you must have the steering wheel controls. There's also the factory scion/toyota plug in adapter that goes between your ipod and the port. Luckily mine was still in the glovebox when i bought the vehicle. I don't know if there's an aftermarket adapter available or not.

I have a Toyota 86 (BRZ) radio on-hand I'm likely to adapt into whatever I get the kids. It looks like Toyota didn't change much of anything connector-wise over the years, so I'm hoping pinout should be similar. If all it takes is 1 pin moved to work with a 1GT, I'm hoping Scion or Toyota of same year should be similar.
