About to head out Friday on a 1800 mile road trip (900 each way) with the fam from Sarasota, FL to Duck, NC in the Outer Banks. Usually I dread it, but I'm actually kinda looking forward to the drive this year as I've never had such an awesome vehicle. Just got the first Toyota Care service with oil change and she's ready to go.

Really love the truck, it's a dream come true. Haven't had any notable issues. I love the mix of power, tech, and style. I'm fascinated by how seamlessly the TTV6 and electric motor work together, I look at the gauges constantly when I'm driving. It's all just very cool.

I have common sense regarding the recall and reported engine issues so I'm not too worried but it's def there in the back of my mind. I know I'm not in the recall but things could change. It's a dark cloud hanging over my otherwise awesome experience.

How have your road trips been?

My 3rd Gen is the best road trip vehicle I've ever had. Some people hate on the radar cruise control, but I find it makes long highway drives more relaxing. Set it and let the truck do its thing.

I turn off the radar bs but keep lane centering and departure thing on.

Having a binize box def helps keep my daughter entertained.

Open up the sunroof screen and enjoy the "Comfort" AVS setting.

Yeah it worked great the handful of times I've used it.

I drive about 85 MPH so I'm interested to see the MPG for the trip. Up to now it's been 100% suburban driving ~17MPG.

I've done 3 2000 mile road trips in the past 9 months. The truck has exceeded expectations loaded and unloaded. Leaving in a week to do NC to Miami RT.
70-75MPH. 20-22MPG. Gained 10% after 10,000 miles. I don't like the lane keeping or radar cruise. I think even regular cruise is a little jerky. The Hey Toyota function works very well and the nav syncs well with traffic updates which is fantastic for some of the NYC stuff I've had to navigate around. The nav system is fast so works well with the upcoming turn offs when there are many. Motor's power is a nice whoosh when you lean on it and the transmission is seamless.
    Enjoy your trip.

ok, Ill try to post and contribute and see how long this goes before it goes off the rail, lets see where tundras.com is at currently.

best road trip truck I've ever had, towing, hauling, or empty. creature comforts in the platinum are awesome, built in sunshades, cooled and heated rear seats, etc, ambient lighting is great when its dark, USB ports everywhere for kids. CarPlay maps on the huge HD screen is super nice, especially when you Tri-split the screen everything is still big and usable.

Auto load leveling rear is awesome when your loaded or towing, 0 squat and excellent ride and control. When your empty hit "comfort" on the AVS and it rides better than any truck I've been in.

passing power is ridiculous , and so much low end low RPM torque , towing and on-ramps or passing is super easy and smooth.

I'm not a MPG guy at all, but I get 4-6 MPG better than I did with my last rig. I leave in 2 weeks for 600 miles in a day towing up north, can't wait

Yessir, the kids will be chillin with their headphones and iPads while gaming connected to the vehicle hot spot. And the wife and I will be listening to a podcast or playlist.

Haha just kidding we'll all be holding our pee, hungry as hostages, yelling at each other while stuck in endless traffic for 14+ hours. Can't wait!

With the heat dome coming, you will find keeping the sunshade closed will help with cooling the cabin. MPG will drop off at speeds above 70. Agree Comfort setting is the choice for cruising. Be safe in the surf with riptide and sharks. Enjoy your truck.

I'm about to do a drive from Montana to Alaska and camp along the way. I've done a few trips across the state but nothing this far in one go yet. I'm looking forward to breaking in the fox pro suspension I just put on. It was extremely comfortable on the highway when I had it all stock but that was a long time ago. The 35s and steel bumper create a little more air resistance so mpg sucks but it still rides great.

Ignore that recall and enjoy your trip. Hybrids aren't even listed. I put 1200 on my 2022 Hybrid over the weekend without a sniff of a problem . Things I do is lane centering to off...adapative cruise set at the bare minimum, and change lanes ( if on a 4 lane highway ) before the little car appears on your screen, otherwise you are dragging your brakes.

I put about 250-300 miles a day on my Capstone and never give it a second thought. This is my 5th Tundra and by far the best one I've ever had. Solid inside and out. Toyota is gonna make this right. Maybe for the ones that aren't under the recall they extend the warranty a bit, but I truly believe they will give us a fair and equitable solution.

Agree with everything you said. You've got your truck perfectly sorted.
I'll be an outlier on this but on long days in Summer sun I like the reduced greenhouse vs my Ford. I guess I'm getting old but it's more comfortable for me. That said, on cool evenings I enjoy opening the roof and rolling down the back window.

Still wish I had the AVS, but oh well.

    Agree on all other counts.

Adding in: spring/summer time in the PNW with the panoramic roof and full roll down rear window = closest you can get to a convertible truck.

Somewhat shockingly, the user interface is the quickest responding I've ever owned, and I feel like that says a lot when even CarPlay is as responsive as it is even though it's wireless.
I'm probably averaging 12mpg at 2500 miles but I also pretty much only use the truck for pulling our travel trailer or doing short haul trips since I've got so many supply stores within five miles of me.

I'd happily take the platinum on a long road trip. Wonderfully comfortable and absurdly powerful and responsive.

    What’s wrong with stock?
I just did a 1,200 mile trip from Miami to Houston to visit my kids. The truck ran like a champ but I had to keep backing off of the accelerator as it liked climbing into the 90’s. I averaged 17 to 18 mpg without cruise control. I’m sure the mileage would have been better if I kept under 75. We will see in a few weeks when we head back home.

Just did 1,100 over the weekend. 3rd time I've done that trip (San Diego to Davis and back) since I bought it in December. I've had lots of health problems and this is the first vehicle I've had where I can do that. It is very, very comfortable for me. I was solo on the way back and with LA traffic, I was in the car for 11 hours. I stopped a lot to stretch my back, but the comfort is amazing for me.

Driving... very nice. Plenty of power. Find what you like for the cruise, centering etc. The heated and vented seats are fantastic. Speed kills MPG. Pick you balance.

    The trip went great!

Just got back to Sarasota yesterday after our 1800 mile round trip to Duck, NC and back ~ 14 hours each way. No issues. Really love the smooth, powerful ride. Fam was comfortable.

Got 19.6 MPG for the whole trip. I did fill it up with premium. On the highway I drive between 75 and 85mph, touched low 90s a couple times when passing. When I used CC I set it to 81 or 82. Radar cruise worked well but I didn't use it that much because there were just a lot of cars. The 33 gallon tank feels huge, we stopped a few times without filling up because we just didn't need to.

Ride was quiet. No clunks, no rattles, no vibrations, no whistle... and I was listening. AC kept us cool, the big screen was awesome for Apple Maps and listening to music and podcasts, and the kids used the hotspot the whole time on their iPads watching movies and playing games. Drove through some t-storms with the moonroof shade open, kids loved it. As the driver I was very comfortable. Seat is big and comfy and I was able to find a few different positions with my right elbow resting on the center console or my left on the driver's door armrest where I didn't get stiff or tired. Leg extender is a luxury I never knew I needed.

All our gear stayed dry and in place under the Weathertech Alloycover - highly recommend. Also have the RefitEco bed mat - also highly recommend.

Really an amazing road trip vehicle. It just seemed to float over all the bumps and cracks but still felt planted on the road. Damn I love this truck.

We've taken (2) 4000 mile round-trips from Colorado to the east coast in the last 10 months. The bed was loaded with vacation stuff, wife and 2 large dogs in the cab.

I enjoy the adaptive cruise set on the minimum safe distance setting, but only with minimal traffic. It's too aggressive on the brakes and accelerating for my tastes when there's traffic.

I still haven't found a road, highway, or interstate where the LTA is functional. It pinballs side to side way too much for me and my wife, in every sensitivity setting. I can easily steer a straighter track myself. And since you still have to keep a hand on the wheel, there's no point to the LTA in my mind.

My truck averaged around 17 mpg on both trips. Not great, but an improvement over my previous Tundras.

I'm a big guy, so I don't find the skinnier Gen 3 seats as comfortable as my 2015 Tundra, but the difference is minimal.

Overall, I'm happy with the improved handling and suspension of the Gen 3. The low end torque of the TTV6 is great. I love the big screen with Google Maps set to satellite view. It's like flying in a helicopter directly over the truck at all times.

As for the recall, I won't let it change how I use my truck. But I'm waiting until Toyota unveils their solution(s) before making another long trip. If any of their solutions involve a buy back or trade in with a milage deduction, I want the least miles possible at that time. My wife's '22 4Runner will have to do in the meantime.

First road trip in the 24. Awesome is all I can say. She’s got 1000 miles now, lol. Tank average was 21-23 mpgs. My first full size. Taking some getting used too to park. Considering I came from two Tacomas, lol.

Part of my pre-flight is to turn off auto start/stop and do a long press on the cruise control button. The Tundra implementation of adaptive cruise is just awful and I agree with you on the LTA. Drive a Tesla. Both features work extremely well and I'm not a huge Tesla fan.

Interesting, I find the adaptive cruise to be wonderful, especially this new version where it will handle stop and go traffic, unlike my 2020 Tacoma that wouldn't do anything under 30 mph or whatever it was.
