I ripped the charcoal filters out. They just pull out. Installed AFE ProDrys.

I really only bought them because I already have the K&N oil and for some reason I despise buying air filters. It's so much easier to clean them when I'm doing maintenance IMO.

Depending on environment. I let them go every 30K.

I would verify those are genuine TRD filters. I bought mine directly from a Toyota dealer and filter media was a much different color. Red urethane surround, but the filter media was a yellowish color. Just want to make sure you're not getting a cheap knockoff or another cheap rebranded part.

Interesting point about the color.... I have the ones like the OP has. Very similar to K&N filters.
After about 10k miles, they had some good amount of dirt built up on them.
I swap in the originals while I leave these out to dry for a day or two.

I live 7 miles from the nearest pavement, so my trucks see a lot of dusty miles. I've never had much luck with the K&N type filters.

My truck came with the TRD filters. Urethane surround and filter media looks the same as all the K&Ns I’ve had. Once I washed them and and re-oiled with K&N oil (which is red) they now look identical to K&N.

Be very careful on non OEM filters with anything with a turbo. If the filter is not identical to the OEM construction the turbo can suck it in and you get a $2k bill for a new turbo. Seen it happen several times with diesel engines when owners get tired of the high price of their filters and start going 3rd party to save a few buck.

What's a good source for OEM filters?

Any Toyo dealer including some who discount online. Others here are better sources than me.

My only experience with diesel filters was buying a $70 Fram filter instead of the $95 OEM filter. Few hundred miles at dealer in limp mode. The Fram had a piece of cardboard in the structure instead of a strip of metal like OEM. Dealer said I was a very close to new turbo time. Lessen learned for me

Your dealer! - The trick is NEVER walk in and buy parts over the counter. You’ll pay a premium retail price because they have to assist you and look up your parts. * Order your parts on-line from your dealers parts dept. for pick-up. They are then almost half price. Oil filter at the counter, $12.50. Pre-order $6.50.
