Backup camera

Not looking for a fancy head unit, just looking for something relatively cheap that will fit into my truck that either comes with a backup camera or can have one added to it. Thanks!

Pretty much any double din will fit

 

My first setup was a 2009+ tacoma rear view mirror with the back up camera screen in the mirror and an Ebay tailgate handle rear view camera
This worked really well to be clean and out of sight until i got a double din head unit and ran the video feed to the double din head unit.

 

Grab one of the many dash cam mirrors with backup cam on Amazon. Powers off the cig lighter. Easy install.

 

Go to Crutchfield...choose what your budget dictates. I put a Boss head unit in my Camry with reverse cam included for ~ $100. It's OK, all things considered. You can easily spend ~ $1,000 or more if you wish. You get what you pay for.

 

You didn't give us a lot to go on. Everything starts with a budget. Your idea of what is "budget" vs. my idea of what is "budget" are probably two different things. Me? I want to wire-once-cry-once, personally, so I'm gonna buy what I know will last, and that means avoiding cheap shit from scAmazon.

Your skill level may affect budget also. If you're confident with your wiring abilities, great! Check this out for install guidance! If you're not, knowing "time is money", you may want to consider spending money on a wireless solution, there are ample on the market, some of the better non-generic/non-shitware ones like 90% of the ones on scAmazon are can be found at Crutchfield OVER HERE.

If you can tell us what your skill level and budget are, it'd help folks here give you advice.

There's really no reason to buy the shitware head units littered all over scAmazon, unless you like creating more problems than it's worth, or if you're literally scraping by. But even if scraping by, you can often find very high-end double-DIN head units

The bonus to buying from Crutchfield is the fact you get unlimited direct human-to-human support, they often toss in wiring adapters and step-by-step instructions, and they'll replace units in a heartbeat without hassle if something isn't working, even if the unit is out of warranty! sc Amazon is doing NONE of the above, and many of the companies selling head units like the one you linked won't exist in 6-12 months, so even if you did have an issue, they wouldn't be helping, because you wouldn't be able to reach them.

Soapbox here, but ... Folks really need to stop supporting these shit companies on scAmazon and fleaBay selling low-quality flea-market-level imposters that are "fair enough", i.e. "it works", but ... not for long, and often times not well.

 

Another vote for Crutchfield. One of the few remaining companies with great customer service.

 

Give me a break, they're all the same basic chassis. The Crutchfield and Dual units are nearly identical and the Dual is the one I ripped out. By the way, no Carplay in any units you listed. I don't get the Amazon hammering. They sell units from the same mfg yet Crutchfield gets praised and Amazon gets hammered. You're throwing out negative comments based on your personal dislikes, not based on any facts. Yep, Boss is good stuff, Dual is good stuff! Oh please!

I currently have 2 on mine. Haha. Installed one on the tailgate handle and added the one that came with the dash cam mirror to the license plate.

 

For me it's really simple:
1. Crutchfield gives you the wiring harness and mounting hardware for free (even with a ~ $100 unit. In fact, a few years ago I bought an open box unit for $49, and it too had free hardware and harness!).
2. They answer the phone when you call, and the actually know what they're talking about.
3. It's all name brand stuff, and 0% chance of counterfeit.

I'm a huge Amazon fan. I live in a major metro area, so I get most of my stuff the next day (sometimes the SAME DAY!). My Amazon bill is several hundred dollars a month. But I take the time to research and shop EVERY item I need, and only buy from Amazon when they have the best price/value. This is not always the case.
