I get it. As of now the 24’s aren’t affected…yet.

The number of 2024's that are failing on this forum are mushrooming. It's up to.....1.

Same here. I just bought a 24 Civic but looked real hard at a hybrid. EVs weren't even on the list because of the range I desire. The hybrid purchase price, insurance and registration all cost more. Most of my driving is hit the highway and go so it would take much longer to see enough fuel savings to offset the cost.

We have two Honda TRX300FW four wheelers that would be perfect if they were electric. I seldom go more that 2 miles from home on them.

Of course, they've sold 80Kish 2024's. But I mean 1? This on a forum where a volume knob breaking illicit cries for a class action lawsuit.
If they were dropping like flies, you'd know.

Considered just trading out of it? That way the wife will take the driveway ball & chain off. As you said a 2.5, imagine there are plenty of 1794s available coming off lease right now.

Sorry if I missed it, but what kind of debris? Metal/plastic? Did you strain the oil?

After doing a ton of research I talked my wife out of a BEV and into a Hybrid. I think Toyota is spot on with their 1:6:90 calculations.

Now if my wife wanted the Taycan 5 door shooting brake style, I would have no objection. Especially because as a dual income family we each pay for our own cars.

I have seen 3 24 failures reported on this site. A TRD pro, and two other non-hybrids (Limited and Platinum) reported on the spreadsheet from one of the other threads (thread was deleted, spreadsheet is still there).

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...JKCX5E50vAXpeUogyH5shM/htmlview#gid=780956012

Still, the point is the same, very few 24 failures. Of course time will tell if a lot more 24s start failing. The positive news is there were a lot of 22s reported on the spreadsheet and failure thread by late June of 22, so it does appear, at least for forum members, that the newer trucks are failing at a much lower rate.

Unfortunately all the deleted threads may have deleted some other pertinent data too.

    Lots of stuff!
We looked at that option but we have a ton of accessories for the Gen 3. The local supply of Gen 2.5' is quite low and sellers have jumped on the bandwagon and jacked their prices. I saw a couple of older Gen 2.5's pushing $50k CDN for a 10 year old truck with 200k kms.!

Our dealership doesn't want our truck but would help us auction it. Said we might get about $40k CDN for it but with the recalls on it, they don't want it.
For context, our truck, is pretty nice with only 7,600 kms on it (4,750 miles). Lots of options like RCI skids and DB cover with a rack etc... I just can't see losing ~50% on it because someone up the line decided that a little debris wouldn't affect the bearings or perhaps they got a deal on main bearings from Alibaba giving their share holders more profits! Engineering done by the accountants ;)

So now we are just waiting for a rental subsidized by Toyota. So far they are ghosting me!

We have little expectations that our truck will get anything resolved before the end of this year. I base this on Toyota's track record for dealing with the Fuel Line and the Fuel Gauge. The engine issue is massive in comparison to these.

That is a sweet ZR2, I have been eyeing the ZR2 Bison 2500 but my 2018 Platinum is still my baby and long paid for. Also have to save up the residual to cover the other 50K plus.

Ahh, more of the story it makes sense, thanks for the context. Wouldn't take the loss either- drive and enjoy it, that's why you bought it. Maybe not worry about the "what if" and let Toyota make it right as it comes. Don't let it rot in the driveway lol.

I think my wife "Risk Manager" is looking at it from our business perspective as well. The truck is registered with our business and we are safety consultants. We work on the high-rise towers doing everything related to the systems to keep workers safe. This whole situation goes against the grain of our business and the way we do things in our personal life as well. We certainly wouldn't allow anyone to use a system that we knew had a potential for failure, I guess it is the "knowing' part that has us hesitant to use it.

The other day, we had a discussion with the insurance company about and they said that since Toyota has come out with the notice but didn't tell us not to use the truck, the insurance company would go after Toyota if the failure caused an accident. I expect that Toyota probably has enough lawyers to fill Lumen Field waiting to fight any claims if they were to start coming in so resources consumed and we still can't get a fuel gauge to work properly!

Every system has the potential for failure. Any vehicle could suffer a catastrophic failure. Law of averages and all that.

Drive the truck and enjoy it, or take the loss on trade/sale. If you let it sit you're losing all the money instead of half.

I agree, I will be working on fixing this situation, I really like the truck and want to keep it.

The situation is a crappy one but not like we haven't seen crappy situations before and survived.

I was just going to mention that. I still haven't seen a *confirmed* bearing failure on a '24. Perhaps they are out there, as I don't do FB or other social media except this and one hunting forum.
