Is this the sound of a leak from the exhaust? There are no bad smells and it's always gotten bad mileage. I crawled under and can't see a leak, so it might be on top of the pipe. Is this something I need to address right away or can it wait?

Exhaust leak is easy to test. Soapy water near connection points (works better on a cooler exhaust) or you can use a smoke generator too. Sometimes you'll find soot near the area of the leak.

If it is a leak, as loud as that is, I think you'll find the leak with a visual inspection.

It sounds like a leak. But there’s a ton of other things that could make that sound too.

In the morning, when the truck is cool, get your shop vac on ‘blow’ and not ‘suck’ duct tape it to your tailpipe. Then use a squirt bottle with soapy water where you think the leak might be.

if it’s a leak feel free to give a call for help with it. With over 20 years experience building tundra exhaust I’m happy to just give advice or design/engineer a brand new solution for you. 760-877-4234
