Once you've been high centered and turn your rig into a teeter-totter (or a see-saw), you'll understand what a difference the diameter of a tire can make.
Anything less than a 33" tire on a serious trail, well you better be in a group with recovery gear.

Tire height is the ultimate way to gain ground clearance. Unless you've got money burning a hole in your pocket for some portals.

All this tire talk has me questioning my choice of 255/75 17s. Hmmm.

Look for a setting that let's YOU control when updates happen then. At least then you have control of it. Maybe it's something new....

When I did my DIY alignment in my gravel drive I struggled to get positive caster... the accident side is Zero, the passengers side is barely positive. My steering wheel needs encouragement to return to center. I've learned to deal with it.
This all is interesting to me though because the skins I have on now are nearing their end of life.

It doesn't have to be a need. Most of us are sinking thousands of dollars into 2O+ year old Tundras. I don't think a lot of what we do is necessarily rational. People don't NEED long tube headers. @Mr.bee proved we may not even NEED all terrain tires. People don't need to drop $5k in suspension on a Tundra that's only worth $6k. Hell, I don't even NEED a truck if I'm being honest.

I don't think I've told anyone they need 285's. Most members have that size because it's the biggest tire we can fit without major modification and sacrifice. They fill out the wheel well nicely and look great on the truck. Much better than 265's. 275 might be a good compromise, especially the ones you mentioned that are oversized.

You're right though that most people who go with bigger tires will never NEED them.

I mean I don't need to go off-roading or camping.
    I don't need a sound system.
I don't need to modify my vehicles.
    I don't need a gas gussler.
    I don't need a fast truck.

But I want these things. I could argue that I do need them or I'd be sad.

    Oh, yes you do.

    1. Sound system is to drown out all the squeaks and rattles of an old vehicle.
    2. Modifying is necessary to improve upon the poor engineering design of some aspects of the Best Gen (I.e. brake upgrades)
    3. Reliability is inversely proportional to mpg efficiency in many cases.
    4. You don’t have a fast truck.

It's a shame I can only like this once.

I'll do cad/cam for the parts so when @khooiii is ready its just a matter of cut and paste.

It'll cost me a hell of a lot less to replace that fauxlock ring than the entire rim if I'm ever unlucky enough to make contact, and that is worth it to me.

Poor choice of last word on my part need/want. But as a casual observer, it feels - right or wrong, it's subjective - like 285s are pushed as a "what you need to get" more often than not. "285 or gtfo", "Not even 285s, psssshhhh" and what not.

I think the old backwoods adage "it's not how deep you fish, it's how you wiggle your worm" applies here.

When everyone is has 31"+, that measly ~2% gain in height from 32.2" (or in my case 32.5") to 32.7" is buys nobody anything.

Making me look at tires i dont need. Well guess what, yall got me wanting a set of wheels i couldnt ever use.

    IMG_7623.jpg

Interco makes a 34x9, but i'm gonna have to see what sort of clearancing 35's take before i bite that bullet.
    IMG_7620.jpg

Hopefully my tires last until i get some armor.

We usually get it at least once a year. We've had some pretty bad blizzards here before. 6+ inches.

The jump I made from 265/70r16 to 285/75/17 was substantial. Way more substantial than shaving ones pubes

Need to buy a new car battery (not the Tundra). What's the best place to shop/buy car batteries? Local auto parts store? Online? Online and then pick up in LAPS? Wally World?

i used to believe batteries are batteries, but aparently not these days. No joke, after chasing a battery drain on grandmas lexus with a month old walmart battery, swapped in a battery from toyota & it fixed the issue. Her car will now start after letting it sit for 2 weeks. Damndest thing ive ever seent.

Damn, my Wally World batts have been working like a charm. The CRV has an interstate from Sam's club. It's probably 5years old. Still works like new

Same here, i never found any drain on grandmas car, checked all the fuses, but like clockwork, after a week & a half, it would be too dead to start. Even installed a battery tender plug through the grille, but they wouldnt plug it in.

Yeah I don't neeeeeed 285s for my daily 17s, the 255s are really good that I have now, would probably be better if they were 265s, as I do get slight wheel spin on slick pavement. I feel a 265 after I put the locker in and build my trailer will be better for grip and towing. But that's about all one honestly needs for towing, and an E1 LR street tire vice an AT would be best.

How ever the 285 70/75 16 A/MTs I am looking at getting for off road use have that practical application, as they will only be used for just that off roading and trail use. But them parking lot overlanders I'm sure would throw an incomprehensible argument as to why all of this is wrong

Didn't look like the typical clear coat peal to me either. Almost like someone re-clear coated it with something that had some color to it. I can only imagine what the interior looks like:eek:

Met up with @The Black Mamba today. Btw you’re a good man.

Comparison photos of that 285/75/16 vs 305/70/17. BLKSNK’s tires look tall arguably as tall as mine, but mine have noticeably more width. His truck is tall and looking real good!

It'd be interesting to see the comparison if your wheels weren't dished, but realize that's not an option.
