Any thoughts or recommendations on what is the best brand HVAC brand equipment?

    Lennox
    Rheem
    Trane
    Others

From research I hear that there are @ 70 brands made by 7 companies. My current system is a heat pump and air handler and is 16 years old. I also understand that most all new ones use micro coils made from aluminum.

    Thanks

I had 2 x 5 tons Lennox for 15 years and I got lucky to keep them for so long but the coils finally bit the dust last year. This time I went with Bosch, a bit pricey but is top notch hardware. Got $2000 rebates for each unit.

The three you listed are excellent brands.
The best unit to go with is really case specific though. Call the most reputable HVAC contractors in your area and see what they recommend based on the needs of your home.
Some models will fit your budget and needs independent of the brand. Remember, all the parts of a system are serviceable and replaceable. Look at what the manufacturer warranty is on the brands recommended to you and ask your contractor which units are the easiest to work on.

Echoing what @*D* said. Find a good, reputable company to work with and they'll steer you right. They are usually on the hook to provide support while under warranty, but it's also their own reputation (not just the equipment manufacturers) at risk for the duration of your ownership. Word of.mouth typically matters to these businesses.

We were lucky enough to know of a local company that was used on a "This Old House" project, and sure enough, they checked out, were competitive, and explained precisely why they carried the brands they did and were happy to walk away if we wanted something different. After 8 years, we've had one single service call, and over those 8 years, our summer electric bill is nearly half of what our old unit was. Same company ended up working with my in-laws and suggested a completely different solution based on the install and use case. Let the experts do expert things and then research from there.

We have an American Standard central A/C system and they have Mitsubishi mini-splits. My neighbor has a Goodman system that has been trouble free as well, but is known as a.more consumer grade product. Our previous unit was a Trane that lasted only 14 years total (12 if we didn't keep it on life support).

Good luck and enjoy whatever solution you go with.

Had 2 Lennox's installed last year (3 and 5T IIRC both are 2 stage) and not had any issue with them so far. This time of year in AZ, between the two of them one is running just about 24/7. Replaced the 20yr old original units and actually noticed a slight drop in the mo bill.

I have Mitsubishi mini splits. Can’t say enough good things. Did the installs myself. My only regret is not doing them sooner!
