Towing mirrors vs regular mirrors?

Does anyone know if you can switch out the towing mirrors for the regular mirrors? In Canada the Platinum trim and 1794 option only come with the ugly towing mirrors. I reach out to the dealer and they said service would be hesitate to complete the swap due to sensors??? Does anyone know if this can be done?

 

I’m sure that if you figured out the sensor compatibility, there would be many willing to trade you side mirrors since, as you stated, in Canada it only comes on the platinum/1794.

I am picking up my platinum tomorrow, and after driving both, I must prefer the functionality of the tow mirrors. The other ones are fine and give you less of an obstructed view on the side, but having the big side mirrors, both heated, distinct indicators, and the blind spot mirror outweighs the looks (plus it is on a dark colour so it is less noticeable). Just my two cents.

I inquired too - for opposite reason, looking to add them. Got the same bs answer they don’t swap them due to bsm sensors. But they are avail on us trims below the platinum.
In Ontario & have a pearl white coming, I’d consider swapping too if doable

 

There are no sensors in the mirrors themselves. Just an indicator LED for the BSM system. Biggest issue for those going from regular to towing mirrors is that you will also need the deployment switch and wiring since they are now motorized. For those that have them is the button one/near the mirror directional controls? I would think that going the other way would be fairly easy since you are taking off towing mirrors and putting on regular ones. Might get a fault but I suspect that it is such a simple system there is no monitoring.

On the previous gen it was an easy swap either way since deployment was mechanical. Now I think not possible, at least not easily. What I find disappointing is that you cannot option them on the lower trim levels (the trucks that are most likely to be towing/working) in Canada.

 

Has anyone found the pricing for the towing mirrors yet (USD)?

 

I got a price (Canadian) from a dealer and immediately dismissed it & didn’t write it down - if I recall it was in the $1200+ ea range just for the mirrors. After that I didn’t ask about the 2nd switch for extending them (the one by your knee) or install or anything.

Yup, drove a platinum the other week while I wait for my Limited to show up and I think those mirrors are ridiculous! They are not even power to slide in once extended, you have to manual do it. Brutal. That is one of those things that, for me, are a deal breaker for that trim. Hey, if I had a trailer and was hauling, totally makes sense but give us customers the option on higher ended trims.

 

I would trade the my regular mirrors for tow mirrors if anyone wants as a I do have a trailer and was just going to get universal extenders for when I tow. But if its an option and wiring harness allows them to be interchangeable I will be exploring that. I have regular in white for my limited.

 

I ordered tow mirrors from Country Hills toyota for $220 canadian each and installed them on my 2018 SR5. Power works and the side signal light also works, I added the Morimoto side lights. In my opinion, I hate them. The top mirror is way to focal and the bottom one isn't tall enough to really see anything. I'm going back to my stock ones for now as I just haul my boat.

 

I am towing with my regular mirrors. I can see the sides of my trailer but it is 7'4' wide so it is close. I would use the Dometic clip on mirrors if the trailer was a bit wider. Something else to help is a rear view camera mounted on the trailer so you can see what's behind you. My trailer came with a wireless Voyager camera and a display that sits in the console of the truck. It works reasonably well.

 

Do the tow mirror’s come with cameras, or a cut out for them? Would I loose the 360 view if I swapped to the tow mirrors.
