I have had an interesting journey with this Tundra that has just over 150k miles on it. I need some help to decide if I need to replace the trans in my truck.

Over a year ago, the torque converter on my 2001 Tundra V8 4x2 went out with a literal bang. I replaced that and then got a CEL code for a solenoid (I don't remember the code). The transmission would slip a little after it got really warm (30 minutes plus of driving), but I needed a vehicle and it ran well enough ran so I continued to drive it. After about a month the code went away on its own and it no longer slips even after an hour of driving.

Although I don't currently tow anything with it, I do want the ability to tow and I want peace of mind that the trans isn't going to conk out on me on a trip. I do know that I should look for a '03/'04 A340E trans if I do end up replacing it. Let me know. Thank you!

Sounds like a rebuild is in order depending on how much you drove it while slipping.

When it slipped, I would put it into neutral and then stop. The interesting thing is that once I put it into gear again, it would be fine. As I mentioned in the OP, it hasn't slipped in months.

Just a hunch, but maybe when the torque converter was replaced they used "universal fluid"? Maybe a couple of drain/refills are in order before you commit to something more serious...
