Wanted to start a new tread and ask who is still towing after the recall? I just completed a 700 mile trip, up the California coast, no issues. Towing about 5,000 travel trailer, hauling about 1,500lbs which includes the trailer tongue weight. Went to a remote campsite in Big Sur with no cellular service. The engine failure was on my mind and a huge concern. Just reached 8k miles. I monitored the Engine Oil Temperature, highest temperature 215. Average 13MPG’s

I don’t know why towing would matter. Most of the trucks that fail seem to do it under low load just cruising from what I’ve seen.

If the motor is gonna blow up its gonna blow up nothing you can do. Chances are yours is fine might as well not worry about it during the warranty period at all

Still towing 30foot GD 25BHE around 7k would be my guess. I do use 93 when towing and have around 17k on the truck, love the way it tows.

Not worried, still towing. It's the primary reason I bought the truck.

Good gas mileage, my trailer is a similar size and I got 9.5 on my last 650 mile trip. Don’t worry about the youtube hype! I just had miserable experiences with GMC trucks 2023 and 2024 3.0 diesels that pushed me back into a Tundra. I got 13-14 MPG’s with the GMC’s towing using massive amounts of DEF and other problems, good luck to everyone jumping out of a Tundra and into those.

I tow all the time still with my 22. Don't understand why everyone's panties are in a knot......if it blows, they will fix it as it is a documented failure of a part. Way I see it if my engine blows 2 years from now, I have a 4 year old truck with a brand new engine in it. Win Win. And all the Nancys that will come on about safety, it just stops running, it doesn't explode like an action movie

He'll yeah! A recall wouldn't make me change my lifestyle.

    What’s wrong with stock?
Trucks gotta do truck things. Can’t let a little thing like a recall hold you back. I did a 1200 mile trip last week and will be heading home in a few weeks. Again 1,200 miles. Can’t hide in the basement crying while waiting for Toyo to come up with remedy. If that were the case there would be no cars on the roads because of all the recalls from all the manufacturers.

I mean, you could be driving down I-25 in Colorado and have to pull over along side Ft Carson. You could be on the shoulder and run over and unexplored artillery round and BAM! Just like in the movies, your truck explodes. It could happen.

I'm interested to learn what Toyota is going to do but I'm not worried about it.
    My truck runs great.

90% of the reason I got the truck is for towing a travel trailer. Ain't giving up the entire camping season due to the minuscule chance something goes wrong in the midst. Might as well just pretend like it adds to the adventure.

Towed to Alaska and back last year, over 10k mile trip. Just got back from another 1.5k trip to Maine. Have over 43k on the truck, at least 15k towing a 7k camper. The hybrid tow is effortless compared to my old 5.7 Crewmax. Brakes are much improved also. BTW, family of four & 75lb lab also made the trip.
Confident that Toyota will make it right. They don’t have a choice IMO, the engine is in too many platforms.

What I don’t understand is it was pretty well documented that the main bearings were failing in trucks and people had no problem going on road trips knowing that. Then Toyota drops a voluntary recall and now everyone is afraid to drive their trucks? It doesn’t really make sense to me as the information was pretty readily available before the recall announcement. I recently did a 6 hour road trip (3 hours both ways) and truck drove perfectly. I might be the minority but I’m looking forward to more road trips in the truck, it is light years ahead of my 3rd Gen Tacoma.

Hey now. My work site is right next to fort Carson artillery range. When they are shelling, it shakes our building. Some of us think we are back in the Middle East or on set in Band of Brothers. Always wondered if there could be an "oops" one day.

I know the media is doom and gloom and some members here love to perpetuate that but I enjoy reading about all the positivity and genuine love a lot of you have for your truck. Mine makes me smile, daily.

my guess would be once Toyota announced a recall it made it "official" in people's minds. before they could have assumed that the owners were doing something wrong, but now that Toyota acknowledged the issue is an internal flaw, it worries people that their truck is likely to fail also. Really though, the chances are still minimal.

Anyway, to keep the thread on topic, looks like an awesome trip!

    Agreed.
I think there are a few things going on. The recall covers 102,000 trucks. People immediately think recall = problem. They think their truck will have a problem. This is not even close to how it has been historically. Toyota typically issues a sweeping recall out of an abundance of caution, and when the dust settles, it turns out that very few vehicles were actually affected.

The difference here is that there are failures outside of the recalled VINs, so everyone is speculating that it’s “so much worse” than Toyota said. They’ll get it right. As @Malinois38 said, they need to. They understand their brand better than anyone else.
