When towing our 6000lb TT uphill, boost stays between 10-15 psi for the duration of the incline and the oil temp “bar” looks like it gets to maybe 70% or so. Engine temp and oil pressure stay right around 50%. Should this be avoided by using a lower gear and keeping the PSI down? I tried a lower gear for a few inclines, around 4k rpm, and boost was minimal but looked like the tranny temp was increasing. I was only trying to maintain 50mph or so in both instances. It was about 90-100 degrees outside so that doesn’t help.

What’s the best way to get up hills and mountains with no overheating? Just go slow?

This is where I like having an aftermarket monitor like the EDGE CTS3, ScanGauge, or Banks. Worth the money since you really don't know what "70%" on a bar graph is.

I use the Edge, but the scangauge is a very good option.

Oil temp is fine. It is the Transmission fluid temp you should be concerned with. Get a SGII or equal to track oil, trans, radiator, voltage and many other useful measures of engine performance.

So how is the SGII or any of the others mentioned different than something like Carista, Torque pro or Fusion? Do they all read the same thing or do the plug ins read more in-depth data?

good question - I can only speak for the SG product. The readouts seem to be the same - the presentations and interfaces (OBD/Bluetooth) seem to the selling points. Guess it really comes down to what the user feels comfortable with and can afford.

More importantly is letting it idle and cool down when reaching destination for few minutes under those conditions for turbo, engine internals, and transmission fluid to stabilize and cool.

I towed about 6,500 lbs give or take through the mtns of WV. Here's the vid which shows all those actual temps via a SGIII.

How hot was it? I saw 47F on your dash in your driveway at one point.

If the device is reading off the OBD port, it's the same data regardless of brand of display/interface.
