Traded my truck in yesterday. 1794 TRD OR 6.5 bed, 25k miles. For reference I got 10k msrp off a new Diesel 3500 Ram Limited Longhorn, and trade was 50,500. One thing important to note, I went to 2 dealers and both said they could not sell Tundra except to auction, because of outstanding fuel line recall. Doesn't matter parts aren't available, a legality issue. My vin was not under engine recall(yet) thankfully. 2/23 build date. This has been overblown so bad by media, but damage is done. Sad deal, loved my truck but just didn't see any good scenario. I drove all 3 GM gas engines, and hemi and hurricane gas engines. Gm has lifter failures, hurricane unproven but damn that focker runs. I did see a few have sucked valves in Grand Cherokee. It's concerning they're pulling 540hp out of a 3.0L. May be fine but learned my lesson to wait. I've had 3 ram dually's, put 125k on each pulling trailers for a living. Still drove like new and zero problems. Besides price is not much different between half and one tons. Buy by weight!

OP, why did you move to the 3500? Did you need the bigger truck?

Honestly, if I went back to a full-sized truck, I'd probably just get a 3/4 or 1 ton and skip the half tons all together.

My trucks see >50% of their miles towing and going to the HD's just means I dont have to worry about cooling and payload capacity even though my trailer isn't actually exceeding the half ton capabilities. I bought my LX570 in February and have put around 4500 miles on it, 3150 of those miles have been towing my trailer.

Ouch. I’m assuming you paid around $70,000+for the Tundra. $20,000 is a hell of a hit to take on a 1 year old truck just because of a small chance of problems. Did you just need a heavy duty truck?

Nice congrats on new truck. Good thing about the Ram 3500 Diesel is that the drivetrain is not made by Ram :D so should be good to go!
I have one as my work truck and don’t mind it at all.

If that fits your needs better, then good on ya! It looks like the interiors on the new rams is pretty slick. I had a 1999 Ram 2500 that was comparable to sitting in a condemned house in terms of build quality

Don't blame you at all. A buddy of mine owns a '22 Ram 2500 and has had zero issues with it. The nicest interior on any truck out there, and Cummins is a beast.

I drove a Ram 1500 and then a 2500 before this Tundra, and I'll be going back to the Ram when my son turns 16 and takes this one. Don't get me wrong, I love the styling and the ride and it even tows moderate loads alright. However, in my opinion, a 3.4L V6 engine should get better gas mileage. Hell, my wife's 6.2L V8 Yukon gets better gas mileage. And, the MM/infotainment system is less than desirable. That's my two cents. Enjoy the Ram.

Does your wifes Yukon have a 3" lift and 35's?

But also, the GM V8's are pretty efficient. They have always been neck and neck with the 3.5L Ecoboost. If someone wants a truly efficient half ton with decent power then the only options are the 2.7L GM or Ford motors. They still make good power but are noticeably more efficient than the V8's or the larger turbo engines.

Interesting that you say, "This has been overblown so bad by media, but damage is done." What's overblown? You took a bath on that truck and you had two dealers tell you they could only auction it, not sell it as a CPO. Taking that big of a hit is equivalent to a dealer telling you thanks, but no thanks IMO.

Tundra has the best resale of any vehicle though, that's quite the hit.

So, this got me curious. I went back and looked at my 2022 Tundra sold video. I bought that for the channel.

It was a 2022 Tundra Limited. Sticker was $59k and my loan was $67k with taxes.

    After 13 payments, I owed $57k.

I sold it to the dealer for $53k, about $4k lower than I listed it privately. It did have some paint scratches which I chalked up to being the issue at the time.

Looking back on it, I actually made out pretty well compared to the OP.

This has got to be the worst possible time to sell or trade in a tundra. Reminds me of people panic buying during the pandemic.

If you tow or haul anything of consequence often an HD is the way to go.

It is a very expensive way to do look like you do macho things with a truck you drive to Costco. Diesel fuel costs and maintenance is a big line item. And if you think Toyota is slow on repairs wait until your diesel has an issue and your truck is the queue waiting with fleet customers who spend 7 figures in trucks a year and the service center has 2 certified diesel techs. I spent 2 fun filled months in a Chrysler 200 waiting on a 1 day repair for my diesel Ram.

Can escape that with a gasser HD. But 11 mpg and 2 $75 fullups a week is rough

I was at Ford yesterday looking around, their 3/4 ton crew cab was about 6000 less than a 1/2 ton. It didn't have all the bells and whistles the 1/2 ton had but it did have 4x4 and an 8 foot bed. If I was in the market, which I'm not, I'd definitely go 3/4 ton before I'd spend the extra on a 1/2 ton.

People are panic-selling trucks that have no issues and being proud about the baths they’re taking.

I didn't need, it but do have a 33' travel trailer that would have been a job for Tundra. Mainly because I don't see any gas engines I'm comfortable with, and a loaded half ton is close to a loaded 3500. Plus smaller box etc.

whatever gives you the best shot placement...rather land some 22s vs missing all the 45s cuz of recoil.

    I prefer 180g 40s in my Glock 23...but I do have a wittle 9mm glock 26
