I was wondering if anyone here has driven both extensively and can comment on ride quality, on road handling, etc. I really like my OR and don't want anything too different.

Just playing a what if game with my local Toyota dealer who has a 2024 lunar rock Platinum in stock. Haven't got the first round of numbers yet so early in the game. Yeah, I know, this may or may not get me out of the engine recall for good. But I do like some of the premium features that I am missing in my SR5 and, who knows, now might be a good time to get a deal. We'll see.

Does the platinum have load leveling and/or AVS?

Prior to buying a '24 Limited with the TRD OR pack, I had a '22 1794 loaner for a while when our Highlander was in the shop. Ride quality was pretty comparable just driving around town.

So, the 1794 had the standard suspension? I would kind of hate to give up the OR Bilsteins...although I suppose that could be backfitted.

IMO, the biggest ride difference you'll get in the various stock configurations (barring Pro/Trailhunter) will likely be from tire size more than suspension. Yes, the suspension will play a roll, but they are all still just a stock suspension. Having an 18" wheel vs a 20" will be just as big of a factor in ride comfort as the slight variations in suspension on most of the trims.

air ride trucks ride differently and tow differently than coil sprung...regardless of tire size.

Yeah, no off road package (I don't think it was even an option on the 1794 in '22, but I'm not 100% certain.) You could always try and find a '24 Platinum with TRD OR pack as well if you want the Bilsteins.

Mine has AVS and rides way better than the TRD Pro I test drove did.

OP already stated the truck he is looking at doesn't have the air suspension. My comment was in regards to the trucks he said he is looking at.

LOL... Considering colors, trims and options, with Toyota actually finding what you want is nigh impossible. There don't appear to be any Plats around here with OR package, let alone air/AVS. I don't tow but AVS might be a nice option, if you can get it. I have MSRC in my Vette and I really like it. But this is just a feeler for now anyway. The initial numbers weren't that great, although there is surely more negotiating room. Not in a rush to do anything... especially since I'd have to defarkle mine to remove the AMP power steps, sub and amp, dash cam, and cat shield. Then have to reinstall everything all over again. LOL.

Yeah, I hear ya there. It can be difficult finding what you want without either leaving certain things off or getting a bunch of other stuff you don't want. I haven't seen many Platinums with TRD around me either.

I have a '24 Platinum with TRD OR. I test drove all of the suspension configurations (Standard, AVS, TRD OR) and found the TRD OR to have the best road manners interestingly.

I haven't driven them all, but I really like the on-road ride of my SR5 with the TRD offroad package. I can't find a Platinum here with it, unfortunately, so I am probably going to table this what if exercise for now. I'll probably text the salesman I was working with and see what he thinks about finding one. But the chances of finding the colors I want are small. The problem with these is that the volume of Tundras is so small that there are just not multiples to choose from, even considering the recent downturn in sales. I am kind of ambivalent about this anyway because swapping Tundras would mean a lot of work for me.

While I have a Limited and not Platinum to compare to, the “take-off” TRD OR suspension is a big improvement over the stock black Limited suspension. I know it’s not the same comparison to Platinum. But, there are still “take-off” TRD OR sets that come up that you could take advantage of you can’t find one with it from build. Good luck. That’s a lot of work on deinstall/reinstall but may be worth it.

The work really wouldn't be all that bad, I guess. I probably would abandon the Kenwood audio amp PnP harness and the dash cam harness and mounts in place for the new owner to use, or not use. As for reversing my seat delete, that would take only 15 minutes. Remove the 2 bolts that hold the hinged platform in, then reattach the rear seat with its 4 bolts. The biggest thing would be the AMP power steps, but they will come out a lot quicker than it took to put them in.

One question for plat owners... do they all come with the camera rear view mirror? I have that in my SR5 with advance tech package and wouldn't want to lose that feature.

Meanwhile I did find a couple with OR package not toooooo far away. But starting over with each new dealer contact... Sheesh. I am not really so motivated to trade that I am in a hurry to get into all that.

2024 Tundra Platinum TRD Off Road
I have a '24 Platinum TRD Off Road 6.5 bed. My initial ride was 850 miles home from the dealership, and coming from a' 22 Tacoma TRD Pro, it drove like a Cadillac though the mountains and flat roads, loved it.

At around 2500 miles, I had the TRD Lift Kit installed because I just can't stop modding things, and now I'm sitting at 9500 miles on the odo. Initially the ride was very stiff and rough on the bumps, but since the it seems to have "broken in" it is much better over all. I have a bed rack and RTT as well which engages the suspension more. With the RTT off, it still rides better than initially. Overall I'm happy I did the lift and the outcome of the looks and the ride quality as a whole.
