Yes, spherical bearings and misalignment spacers for the lower shock mounts on Kings rather than rubber bushings.





This is the noise and play they were making last time I did 'em. They aren't as bad currently, but they're on their way out.

Check the pivot point for the cables on the axle. Mine was all crapped up and doing the same thing.

I’d actually be ok with that. I love these lil fuckers. If I can get a part time gig that’s mornings only, I’d do it in a heartbeat. We’ve talked about possible early retirement and I take care of the kids until both are out the house in 8-10 years, I have enough side hustles I could make it work, most likely. Maybe the only advantage to having kids so late in life.

 

That was my whole plan too, focus on one or the other. My wife’s plan was both of us work and both share kid time.

I grew up in a one income household. It makes sense to me.

But I realize women have a different experience in the workplace. And I’m also cognizant of missing out on prime earning years. Cause I don’t exactly have solid retirement accounts.

 

Did my semi annual wash and wax this morning. The clear coat is still holding up.

EDIT:
I use a glass cleaner called invisible glass, works good on glass and chrome, but I have always been careful not to use it on plastic. It smells of chemicals, not ammonia like Windex. Well my HL lenses were plastered with bugs and I thought, what the heck because the lenses were so clouded it probably couldn't hurt. It seemed to wipe off the surface oxidation. See the results.

Dang - the looks like your truck is brand new!

 

I pulled the early retirement trigger two years ago. The kids are 8 and 5, if the finances don’t work out (but they should) I’ll go back to work once they are old enough that they don’t want t hang out with me all the time. Could not have done it if out first was born ten years earlier.

Take it from a guy who lost father early....you guys 100% have the right idea. Children need good fathers around or its a gamble if they will look up to right kind of role model. On your death bed, you will never second guess that decision. All you Dads. Go for it.

 

I did a test on the left front wheel arch moulding before committing to all 4. Chrome is now body colored gloss black

 

And the front bumper next?

 

It’s on my to do list. Just not today. I’ll do the wheel arch moldings, body side moldings and that strip under the window that used to be black and then peeled off to reveal chrome. It’ll get there. Also need to paint the roof and the camper shell. Not in a hurry for those. Now that heavy maintenance is done, I can devote to exterior

Tundra is now an only child. Sold the Tacoma this morning. Sad and relieving to watch it drive away.

After a couple weeks of occasional low-ballers and people who want to deduct a thousand dollars for every little thing wrong with a 26-year old, 330,000 mile truck, the right buyer finally found me. He plans to drive it this summer and fall, then rebuild everything over the winter. He knew he was buying a solid base to build on, and anything more was a bonus. So I don't need to worry about sore feelings if a check engine light comes on in the next week or something. Because really, at that age & mileage, anything is possible.

 

That’s pretty great. That’s some quality time I know they appreciate.
I do enjoy my time with them more than working on the truck. But amazing that if I can have my hour of activity a day, I can deal with anything; Fussy, teething, up multiple times a night, etc. But otherwise it gets to me quicker and feels harder.

Wife is out of the country for work next week so I'll be rolling in the Highlander all week lugging the kids around to new hikes and stuff. I need to think of some cool outdoor crap to do with them.

We head up about every 4-6 weeks (320 miles round trip) to keep the land somewhat cleaned up; whatever we can do with basic tools (weed-eater, small chainsaws, backpack sprayer, etc.), but we've been taking the little Ford for those due to MPG's.

I need to drive the Tundra more, only ~800 miles since last August...trying to defer a little maintenance until the land is paid off.

Cloudland Canyon is a pretty cool place as is Rock City, Ruby Falls and Chatt has cool things for kids as well. One long day trip but doable...

I'm getting ready for a series of drain & refills for my transmission. After reading through threads with a lot of debate and back & forth and disagreement, it seems like the basic procedure is:

Get up to operating temp. Park. Shift in to each gear. Check level to make sure it's at the 'H'. Drain. Measure what drains. Put exactly that amount back in. Shift through each gear again. Check level. Done. Do another couple times over the next thousand miles. More or less?
